Where is the story about the man who had priets from a different religion build up a big fire pit and he (I can't remember his name for the life of me) would build one also and he told these priests from another religion to pray to their gods for it to catch on fire and they prayed and prayed and nothing happened. Then this guy had water pored all over his fire pit and then prayed to God to start the fire and it did. (only serious answers please) I need to show this to a friend and I can't remember where it is. I know it's old testament.. can you tell exactly where. Thanks!

Ok. So. Fundementalist christians don't believe that the earth is several billion years old. They say carbon dating, and fossils, etc are all lies. Fair enough.

But you know distant galaxies and stuff? That are billions of light years away, we're talking billions here like.

WHen Gos said let there be light, and when he created the starts and stuff, why did he wait 10 billion years between the stars and earth?

PAY ATTENTION HERE: Even if you say that we don't know what a day was back then, as in, how long it was, if the earth is only 6000 years old or whatever, and the stars are billions of years old, isn't there a disparity between the length of days then????

I mean if you study History you will notice that the very first Christians did not live the best of lives. The were greatly hated by the Jews at first and then hated by the Roman Empire. They were tortured, killed, imprisoned, and at some times even denied the right to buy or sell. Still for 300 years of terrible living the Christians endured. Today when we were pertaking in the Lords Supper, Comminion, I thought of what it must have been like for the very first Christians when they pertook of the Lords Supper. They didn't have air condition buildings with cushy seats. They had no religious freedom. The fact that they were meeting together as Christians was a violation of Roman Law. Many were taken out of their Christian Communion and put in prison or thrown to the wild beast in the Arenas in the first 3 Centuries. I felt ashamed as a Christian. I am no way as faithful as those first Christians. It made me re-examine my life. Christians of today make the faith look horrible.

No, this is not a "baiting" question. My Church is dealing with this issue front and centre. My Church is in the process of trying to decide if we should bless same sex unions and ordain openly gay people to clergy.

Actually, its a little more vague than that at time, because we have also been in the process of trying to decide HOW to decide. Do we look at scripture? Tradition? Reason? Its a real stuggle for many people.

I think I count myself among a very, very large number of Christians in North America when I say that this has never been an issue of great importance to me, and it has never effected me personally.

Nevertheless, I would like some definitive answer to the issue. Is there any place in scripture where homosexuality is condemned in no uncertain terms? Is it condemed irrefutably?

Many scholars have challanged certain passages which are often used to suggest that God dissaproves of homosexuality.

Any honest and well considered answers would be appreciated.

He it is Who sends down His blessing on you, and His angels pray for you, that He may bring you forth from all kinds of darkness into light. And He is Merciful to the believers.

Last year... during Ramadan... I ended up in the hospital one of the nights...
They still didn't know what was wrong and were doing tests... n so by the time I was about to get a CT-scan the morning prayer had passed... n I had to drink something for the scan...
My hubby said I should drink the liquid... n not fast that day... so I did...

And I started fasting after I was released from the hospital… but one day… the pain came back n so I decided to break my fast by taking meds…

ANYWAYS... my question is... did I do the right thing by breaking my fasts?
I have made them up… but I think I made a mistake!

THANKS IN ADVANCE...

Look. You can't just concentrate on Christians for believing in a religion. For example... You can't blame people for believing that the U.S will, i dunno, win the football world cup sometime. No matter how ridiculous it sounds, it's just a belief.

I'm more of an atheistic catholic.... I think it's a great institution, and it's a good way to live your life, what catholicism teaches.

Anyway. I'm an intelligent person, I've read up on and understand things like evolution, and geology, and plate tectonics, and biology and astrophysics. And I'm also INTERESTED (just interested) in theology, so I've read on that too.

Anyway. Be careful in using the generalisation "Christians" when referring to the crazies that refuse to believe in little things like evolution, and the age of the earth etc.

It's insulting to the rest of us.

God burdens not any soul beyond its capacity. It shall have the reward it earns, and it shall get the punishment it incurs. Our Lord, do not punish us if we forget or fall into error, and our Lord, lay not on us a responsibility as Thou didst lay upon those before us. Our Lord, burden us not with what we have not the strength to bear; and efface our sins, and grant us forgiveness, and have mercy on us; Thou art our Master; so help us against the disbelieving people.

and if you said no, then why do you blame the jewish of not believing in christiantiy? isn't life repeats itself? the pharoh denied Moses, Jewish denied Jesus, and christians denied Muhammad?

How did you learn to juggle concepts so well? You use logic AND intuition when you answer. (no easy feat!) How did you learn to juggle spirituality, philosophy, religion, and/or psychology to come up with those responses? Do you ever drop the ball? You obviously use both hemispheres(your right AND left 'hands') Did you know that this is what you were doing? I'm pretty familiar with this circus called Y/A, R&S and I've read your answers and it's no accident. Can you train others, like me? In my last 10 or so questions I threw many ideas of different sizes and weights at you, and you handled them like a pro. WTF?! You seem to have a good grasp on what you know, and don't know.
I consider all of you my Teachers and if I didn't pick your answer as 'best', it doesn't mean I didn't learn a great deal from you. If you decide to keep your 'trade secrets' to yourself, will you at least star my question so that I know you hear me? I know you're very humble, but please indulge me.

Today my 18 year old granddaughter graduated from high school. This is a miracle, for she spent several years with depression, and cutting herself.....was in and out of institutions for help and counseling. MUCH PRAYER was done for this dear child. God has mightily delivered her from all this bad stuff.....and she has finished her course with flying colors !! She has also been accepted into a local junior college in the fall. All praise to our wonderful Lord !! Thank You, Lord Jesus!

Cave paintings have been made since the Upper Paleolithic, 40,000 years ago. The oldest cave is that of Chauvet, and is 32,000 years old. How come in the Bible, man is not depicted as using stone axes and stone tools, with flint arrow heads etc?

Also, how can one explain the fact that since after the "flood", the population had to start over, which, one would presume, was some time after adam and eve, the variations in race in humans? Why are there people of all different colours and racial bone formations, especially of the skull?

Speaking of "the flood", Was Noah commanded to take one pair of each clean animal into the Ark (Gen 6:19–20) or seven pairs (Gen 7:2–3)? Did the flood last forty days (Gen. 7:17) or a hundred and fifty days (Gen 7:24)?

Also, would all the animals, including the extinct ones, have fit in the ark? And if all the land on earth was covered, where did that enormous volume of water go? seriously! It had to go somewhere! Where is it!?
