No, this is not a "baiting" question. My Church is dealing with this issue front and centre. My Church is in the process of trying to decide if we should bless same sex unions and ordain openly gay people to clergy.
Actually, its a little more vague than that at time, because we have also been in the process of trying to decide HOW to decide. Do we look at scripture? Tradition? Reason? Its a real stuggle for many people.
I think I count myself among a very, very large number of Christians in North America when I say that this has never been an issue of great importance to me, and it has never effected me personally.
Nevertheless, I would like some definitive answer to the issue. Is there any place in scripture where homosexuality is condemned in no uncertain terms? Is it condemed irrefutably?
Many scholars have challanged certain passages which are often used to suggest that God dissaproves of homosexuality.
Any honest and well considered answers would be appreciated.

Many things in the Old Testament were clearly overturned by Jesus' teachings in The New Testament.
Most moden day Christians do not give a second thought to dietary laws found in the OT. Nor do they care about many other meaningless teachings in the OT. I think somehwere in the OT I once read that any garment you wear must be made from one fabric only. Who actually practices that these days? No one, because they know that such teachings have no force and are irrelevant!
Jesus said nothing about homosexuality. That fact must count for a lot in this debate. He spoke about murder, abortion, forgiveness, and many other things. But you'd think if this matter were important he would have mentioned it.

A few other thoughts...
If homosexuality is a sin (and I'm not saying it is isn't) then its just one sin among millions of sins. All Christians are sinners. The Church accepts all sinners, welcomes them with open arms. But I guess sinners cannot accept the Church to bless and sanctify their sins. That is to say that if I have lust for women other than my wife, or if I love money and am greedy, I cannot expect my Church to approve of these things, which is what they would be doing by 'blessing' same sex unions.
Still, this is a perplexing issue. All the research and experience we have shows that homosexuals do not choose to be homosexual. And few would argue that a person cannot be homosexual and still believe in Jesus Christ.
Doesn't Romans 1 talk about forced acts of homosexuality as oppsed to consensual sex?
Scripture is ambibuous on this subject.
Tradition is squarely against it.
Reason tells to accept gays and lesbians.
I am still undecided.

Hey Amondriscoll,
I wonder why Sodomy was named after Sodom,
but they left Gomohra alone:?
Maybe Gomohra was more lesbian than male homosexual.
I don't know.

Surely you've read the first chapter of Romans. It pretty well covers it. Not to mention that the Bible repeatedly states that the sexually immoral shall have their part in the lake of fire and brimstone...it says it in Revelation 21:8 That covers all sexual immorality.
Leviticus !8:22 Plainly says...You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.
I'm sure you've also heard of Sodom and Gomorrah.
1 Corinthians 6: 9 - 11
1st Timothy 1: 8 - 11
The Bible is so very clear, I don't see how people are debating this. If you want to live a homosexual lifestyle no one has the right to stop you but we do have the right not to have to believe that it's a biblically acceptable practice. Just do it and accept that it's wrong. Don't try to distort the Bible to fit the lifestyle. These people need to repent and turn from their lifestyles and we as Christians need to love them, and pray for their thoughts and desires to be brought into captivity of the Holy Spirit. However we cannot embrace the homosexual lifestyle as an accepable one in our churches. It is an abomination to our God. God disapproved of it all throughout the Old and New Testaments, and He hasn't changed His mind. God bless!!

1st Timothy 1: 8-11 Contemporary English Version says:
(New Testament; not Old Testament)
8 We know that the Law is good, if it is used in the right way. 9 We also understand that it wasn't given to control people who please God, but to control lawbreakers, criminals, godless people, and sinners. It is for wicked and evil people, and for murderers, who would even kill their own parents. 10 The Law was written for people who are sexual perverts or who live as homosexuals or are kidnappers or liars or won't tell the truth in court. It is for anything else that opposes the correct teaching 11 of the good news that the glorious and wonderful God has given me.
The single biggest hurtle Christians attempting to defend this lifestyle by saying, we are all sinners and Christ accepted sinners, is this one thing. Whenever Jesus "accepted" a sinner, such as healing the cripple at the pool, or forgiving the woman caught in adultery, He also said to them...."now, go and sin no more." He did not "accept" sinners into his circle and permit them to continue to live in that sin. God Bless.
The Holy Bible talks about a time and people that will call what is wrong right, and what is right wrong. We are living in that time now. As far as the Bible and Christianity are concerned, this is not an issue. It has always been wrong and it still is today. Christians are to love everyone, including homosexuals and show them the dignity due to all human beings. But we cannot confirm them in their sin by accepting it and saying its OK. Sometimes the truth hurts but we must stand by that truth. Remember, for ALL sinners, homosexuals included, Jesus said, "now go and sin no more."

Romans 1:26-27 is a good starting place-"For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise, also the men, leaving the natural use of women, burned in their lust for one another, men with men comitting what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which is due."
Also, 1 corinthians 6:9-10 makes it clear the destiny of homosexuals- "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither the fornicators, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God."
As Christians, it is our duty to bring as may people we can to Christ. Not because Jesus said so, but because we love our fellow men. The bible is God's Word, and it is very clear about homosexuals; they will not be in the kingdom of God. Therefore, if homosexuality causes someone to be condemned to hell (obviously the opposite of inheriting the kingdom), it is something condemible in the eyes of God. (all scripture from NKJV)

1 Corinthians 6: 9 - 10
What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom.
Leviticus 18:22
“‘And you must not lie down with a male the same as you lie down with a woman. It is a detestable thing."
Romans 1: 26 - 27
That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error.
Romans 1: 32
Although these know full well the righteous decree of God, that those practicing such things are deserving of death, they not only keep on doing them but also consent with those practicing them.
Timothy 1: 9 - 10
in the knowledge of this fact, that law is promulgated, not for a righteous man, but for persons lawless and unruly, ungodly and sinners, lacking loving-kindness, and profane, murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, manslayers, fornicators, men who lie with males, kidnappers, liars, false swearers, and whatever other thing is in opposition to the healthful teaching.
Hope this has helped. These ones will meet an ill fate should they not change their course.

Romans 1:24-27 Therefore God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, gave them up to uncleanness, that their bodies might be dishonored among them, even those who exchanged the truth of God for a lie and venerated and rendered sacred service to creation rather than the Creator who is blessed forever That is why GOD gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature, and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflames in their lust towards one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves full recompenses, which is due for their error.
Also look into 1Timothy 1:9-11 and compare it to Leviticus 20:13 then also look to Jude7: and compare it to Genesis 19;4,5,24,25.
I can talk from the bible more on this subject, but e-mail me, to much info to print here !

I can't think of any that haven't already been mentioned, but I would like to make a point.
If you think that Jesus healed the ill and then told them not to sin anymore therefore, meaning that their affliction was as a result of their sins or being born imperfect how can homosexuals change the way they are?
I mean OK in Jesus's day (if you believe it) he touched people and they got healed, but nowadays as Jesus no longer walks the earth what are we saying? That a person can repent and immediately stop feeling attraction to the opposite sex. Or that than a wheelchair bound man can repent and should then get up and walk or that a blind man can repent of his sins and then be able to see. So why do we keep quoting scripture at homosexuals and expect them to change. We accept blind, deaf and disabled people and will even go out of our way to accomodate their needs. Can we not extend the same acceptance to those that are born gay.
It seems to me that a lot of people think that gays are going to stand before god on judgement day and they would be quite happy to see them smited. Isn't it ultimately god that judges? It is only he that can see into the hearts and minds of men?
So in answer what's in your heart? Only then will you be able to decide which way to go.

I can show you more than one.
Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a
female; it is an abomination."
Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them"
1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God
Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper
Homosexuality is clearly condemned by the Bible. It goes against the created order of God. He created Adam and then made a woman. This is what God has ordained and it is what is right. Unlike other sins, homosexuality has a severe judgment administered by God Himself. This judgment is simple: They are given over to their passions. That means that their hearts are allowed to be hardened by their sins (Romans 1:18ff). As a result, they can no longer see the error of what they are doing. Without an awareness of their sinfulness, there will be no repentance and trusting in Jesus. Without Jesus, they will have no forgiveness. Without forgiveness, there is no salvation.

Has your church read the story of Sodom and Gomora? It's spelled out pretty clearly there. The men of Sodom refuse Lot's virgin daughters and cry for the Messengers of God to be givien to them. Also in the New Testament, it talks about men leaving the "natural use of the woman" and "burning with lust for one another" - that seems pretty clear too. I'm sorry, I can't think of the verse referance, but if you get a Concordance, you should be able to find it.
