There is absolutely no reason to feel that you have let either yourself or Allah down by your breaking of hte Ramadan fast. Their are exemptions and contingencies in place which state that those who are ill, pregnant, very young or elderly do not need to participate in the requirement of fasting.
As with anything in this life, it all comes down to intention. Your own intention was pure in that your motivation ws correct. You actually needed the persuasion of your husband to convince you of the right course of action. Therefore there is no error at all on your part.

You have definately done the right thing, you tried fasting after you were released from the hospital & you still had pain, so it's not your fault. You did the right thing & you made them up which is wonderful. Allah will recognize your good deeds & reward you. Sickness could be a temporary sickness from which a person expects to be cured soon. Such a person should not fast during the days of his or her sickness, but he or she must fast later after Ramadan to complete the missed days. Those who are sick with incurable illness and expect no better health are also allowed not to fast but they must pay the fidyah, which is giving a day's meals for each fast missed to a needy person. Instead of food for one day one can also give equivalent amount of money to a needy person. Women in their menses and post-natal bleeding are not allowed to fast, but they must make up the fast later after Ramadan. If pregnant women and mothers who are nursing babies can also postpone their fasting to a later time when they are able to do so. You have made no mistakes what so ever don't worry about it. I hope I answered your question take care & god bless you & your family.

Hey, I thought I could help you out. I left islam a long time ago but I studied it pretty extensively. Under Islamic law, you do not have to observe the fast if you are ill. While short fasts can boost metabolism, prolonged periods of fasts is dangerous. It thins the lining of mucus in your stomach and may cause an ulcer. Taking care of yourself is most important. You can make up for the missed days by fasting for 6 days proceeding the Eid celebration. Bye and hope you well : )

The prescribed fasting is for a fixed number of days, but whoso among you is sick or on a journey, shall fast the same number of other days; and for those who are able to fast only with great difficulty, is an expiation - the feeding of a poor man. And whoso does good of his own accord it is better for him. And fasting is good for you, if you only knew.
Holy Quran
1667. In the following situations, both qadha and Kaffarah become obligatory, provided these acts are committed intentionally, voluntarily and without any force or pressure, during the fasts of Ramadhan:
Eating
Drinking
Sexual Intercourse
Masturbation
Staying in the state of Janabat till the time of Fajr prayers
And as a recommended precaution, invalidating the fast due to reasons other than those mentioned above, should also be recompensed with Kaffarah, besides the obligatory qadha.
1668. If a person commits any of the foregoing acts with an absolute certitude that it does not invalidate fast, Kaffarah will not be obligatory on him.

Samantha, i think you did the right thing both the times. That is because your excuses are both genuine. Fasting is something you do only for Allah, and remember, Allah is Rehman and Raheem. Which means He is very kind and very loving. He won't ever want us to put ourselves in danger, or hurt ourselves in any way, or be cruel to ourselves, specially while following His commands. Islam is a religion of nature. It is designed to work alongwith human nature, needs and weaknesses. You had a situation that needed to be looked after....in other words it could have been life threatening. Allah doesn't ask you to go over the edge or be ignorant of something dangerous to yourself, only to follow His commands. That is why He has given Islam to humans, which is a naturally peaceful religion, more than considerate of us. I think you should stop worrying, and you have already made up too.
May Allah Bless you.

Yes you broke your fast the right way because first of all you were sick and if you are sick you can't fast which is written in the holy quran if any of you guys (above) have read it,....
Second of all you broke your fast before the afternoon(salat) prayers which is the right way to break your fast if something (like in your case) were to happen......

Yes, of course you did the right thing! To think otherwise is insanity! If you need medicine to function, if you need medical tests which require you to eat or drink, you are exempt from fasting. People who are ill do not have to fast. You just need to make up the missed fasts when you are well.

Those who are very sick are exempt from fasting. I am not a scholar but I tend to think you are OK since you made them up when you were healthy again.
Remember Allah meant for things to be simple, so don't complicate them.
