1 Kings 18 -
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
There had been an ongoing famine in Samaria (3 years, by this point), a land which had gone corrupt. Around this time, Jezebel ordered all the prophets of God to be executed and many of them went into hiding, Elijiah being the most prominent of them all.
Back to the famine - so this guy is sent out to look for water and all of a sudden, Elijiah comes out and tells him to tell his master...
PERTINENT INFORMATION
...that the people of his land were very bad indeed and challenged their god, Baal, to a showdown of sorts with THE God.
So 450 prophets of Baal prepare a bull for sacrifice without fire, which is to be lit by the respective god. They wait all day, and nothing happens.
It's lonely Elijiah's turn, and what does he do? He orders people to douse his whole sacrifice in water three times, prays, and "then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench" (1 Kings 18:38).
Hope that helped, cause I had much fun looking this up. Great story.
