Because of lack of education, past experiences with certain people, or when their parents passed the hate down to them. There are several factors that involve people becoming racist.
You're right; being racist is senseless but try telling that to a klan member and nothing will get by him.
The Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University has a lot of information about racism and why certain people do become racist. I'll give you the link to it in the source list. Going through all those images was just shocking.
In the Bible, God makes it known when we are to love our neighbors as ourselves. In Biblical times, the Middle East was a huge melting pot (since it was part of the Roman Empire, which was also a melting pot) of ethnicities and cultures. Jesus wasn't white and He never spoke English; He spoke Aramaic. "Christian" racists such as the KKK fail to see that the Bible pretty much contradicts their own teachings. They also fail to see that their own pride is sinful.
In the New Testament, it states that there is no "distinction between Jew nor Greek." We are God's creation, regardless of skin color or ethnicity.
There is a part in the Bible where Peter meets with an Ethiopian charioteer who was reading the book of Isaiah. Peter asked the guy if he knew what he was reading and the charioteer says that he would like to have someone help him figure it out (the book of Isaiah has a lot of stuff regarding the coming of Christ). Peter tells him about Jesus, the Ressurrection, etc. and the Ethiopian becomes saved and baptized and goes on to spread the Message.
This story stands out in my mind because skin color was not a problem back then and it certainly shouldn't have been a problem in history nor should it be a problem now.
As for the KKK hating Jews, they fail to believe the fact that the Christ they supposedly worship is Jewish. They fail to see that cross burning is blasphemous (they claim it's to "honor" Christ).

Racist people are racist because of fear it's called xenophobia the fear of foreign thing I mean I really don't get how you could hate an entire race of people that you don't know and yes it's the biggest sign of ignorance. I'm an African American living in North Carolina and there are not many racist people here as far as I've seen but the ones who are are usually country hicks no offense. Or they've just been taught that. I hope this helps. God Bless

I hate stupid people, and they cant help it. I hate people who allow themselves to be ruled with primitive desires, and I dont know, maybe they cant help it. The golden rule is nice and all, but I choose not to like people who make this world more ugly and cause me more problems than I would have if they didnt exist- and you have to see this is perfectly natural even if you arent willing to accept that its reasonable. There is nothing fundamentally illogical with putting forth some theory that different races tend to gravitate towards certain personalities, or unique talents, or whatever. After all such things are often genetic and race is, of course, genetic. But objective people usually only have to meet a few people who violate the stereotype before they change their mind. The people who refuse to change their mind no matter what are the really inferior ones.

I don't know, my parents were born in Pakistan, a Middle Eastern country, and I have the dark black hair, dark eyes, and tanish brownish skin , (like my avatar), of an Asian from that area, but I live in the U.S and I am Muslim, my religion is Islam, and I have tons of friends and I am nice to everyone, but some people make fun of me just because I am not like them. They say Asians are stupid, and I should hgo back to the misddle east, I wasn't even born here! And everyone says I am smart and nice, but I like to be modest. It makes me sad, because it was the way they were brought up, I guess, but I am still proud to say Pakistan, Zinda rath! Thats i Urdu. I hope they can see the error of there ways. Thank you for not being racist, I really appreciate that.

Because of their backround for example, (and this is only a fact) people tend to hate mexicans becuase they happen to be uneducated and alot has to do with their poor backeround obviously, people hate blacks becuase of multiple reasons. People say they dont like them becuase their either ignorant and alot has to do with a big part of their history, having been slaves most people look down upon them and lower them to nothing. Lots of people hate whites becuase of their back round as well. During the civil war they had black slaves and the KKK saga along with the Germans (who are considered white and the master race) killng jews and being the master race gives them a big head to look down upon all others, having been a white america for ages. America has been white for a long time whether its been a president, programs, and even higher education. White people are so used to seeing other whites succsessing in those categories and think that other races are just lazy or underestimate them if you will. The list goes on with races but i chose those three races becuase they tend to be the bold race that always comes up. I hope you dont take my answer offensive but its all fact.

Define "racist."
In virtually every early language, the word for the speakers of that language is "People" or "True Human."
The word for everyone ELSE is "dog" or "enemy" or "barbarian" or "troll."
Chimpanzee troupes recognize members of the group by their *smell* . . . members of other troupes, who are the exact same species and physically indistinguishable from them, are chased off or killed.
Primates, on other words, have a natural tendency to divide the world into "us/not us." And to protect their own.
The real problem is that increasingly multicultural societies like the US and Western Europe do very little to accomodate or ameliorate that reality---as long as those on the bottom are fighting each OTHER for scraps, those on the top are secure . . . and guaranteed an endless supply of cheap labor.

Because when they're growing up they hear racist comments from their parents who heard it from their parents, and so on and so forth.
These stereotypes and feelings are passed down from people, who long ago probably fought each other over land. Like the english and french hating each other....or maybe the Africans and Arabs, or Asians and Russians....
There are lots of reasons, but mainly because those feelings are imprinted on their mind from friends, family, and even the media.

It is a SURVIVAL INSTINCT and completely NATURAL! Why is every race on this earth allowed to be "racist" EXCEPT for the White race? Our culture and civilisation and RACE are being attacked DAILY by the media and the government! If ANYONE should BE "racist" it should be US!!!

A culturally diverse group of young children will play together and not even notice race. Racism is something people are taught.
