Chapter one is the story of the God EL creating everything.

Chapter two (approx.) is a rewrite which makes editorial changes to the order of events and substitutes the name of the God YHVH, to make it match the Hebrew mythology.

I think it's pretty sad that group claiming to have the 'Truth' is using a hand me down cosmology, and we have the crib notes showing exactly where the story was taken from and what changes were made to it.

Sort of blows a hole in your story, doesn't it?

I am not asking for names or anything I just want to know if there are people in here that just "get to you?"
Or are you able to just let it slide off your back?

I can overlook most comments in here, but there are 3 particular people who I cringe when I see their avatar, because I KNOW what's coming and I KNOW it's going to irritate me. All the same, I sometimes look for them if I'm in a "mood".

Oh and one last thing....Do i rub any of you the "wrong" way?

Christians have a whole lot of sub groups they can fall into, and can identify their beliefs quite quickly with a title.

But when buddhists and the like start saying "Hey we're atheists too!", what is left for the rest of us atheists to identify ourselves?

Why can't buddhists just call themselves buddhists?

Is there a specific term for "Atheist who dosn't believe in souls, or an afterlife, or reincarnation"?

Is it all based in the system of being subservient to men and to the emperor? But i doubt it the emperor is that popular now adays. Because in america if we are religious we base our morals on what the bible says and also respect to parents and what they teach us......

Now that there is not much emperical influence or samurai ...etc...i could see how just making the male system society work is why they have morals in the first place but
it's hard to tel....

is it because evolution makes a supreme being redundant?

if there is no god/allah then the entire structure of religion falls apart like a deck of cards right?

but how can these religious people prevent young people from gaining knowledge?

As Catholics, we're used to seeing misinformation about our faith popping up here regularly, but I find it disconcerting to see how many believe Catholics a) don't read the Bible, or b) aren't allowed/encouraged to read the Bible. It seems to be second only to the "Mary issue" in terms of frequency.

When I answer such questions, in addition to clearing up the fallacy I usually also point out that many parishes have begun to schedule regular Bible study groups, because that's the case in my local parishes and some I know of elsewhere. Just out of curiosity, how widespread is this -- particularly in the US, where the fact that we aren't seen walking into church on Sundays carrying Bibles seems to be the only evidence some have to back up their assertion?

I asked one at my door and they said he is man, son of God, and Michael the arch angel.

I looked in his NWT and showed him who i thought Jesus was. Check out this verse in your NWT and tell me what you think. In answer Thomas said to him: "My Lord and my God!"

but thats not because faith has any logical proof. its because faith works as some kind of medicine to stimulate the brain and that takes effect on the body

when i was travelling through south africa i met a man who told me that his cancer got better because he had faith in a sangoma (voodoo priest)

another woman told me that she was cured from a nasty body rash because she believed and prayed to a god who is the caretaker of a certain tree in s/a

what do you think friends?

Consider how all other phenomenal existence and beings are captives of nature. The sun, that colossal center of our solar system, the giant stars and planets, the towering mountains, the earth itself and its kingdoms of life lower than the human, -- all are captives of nature except the human. No other created thing can deviate in the slightest degree from obedience to natural law.

I keep coming accross questions that are aimed at a particular audience, ie 'Christians, what do you think...?' 'Muslims, do you believe...?'

Surely the aim of this is to mix with eachother, exchange views & learn something as we go along. I dont just want to hear from people who hold the same beliefs as me. I want to hear from people of all beliefs, regardless. This is where I can learn & grow.

What do you think? And what do you think about questions directed at a particular group?

Why bother living or doing anything? You are just going to die and go to heaven?

Isn't that a meaningless life? No matter what you do you will end up in the same place?
