Consider how all other phenomenal existence and beings are captives of nature. The sun, that colossal center of our solar system, the giant stars and planets, the towering mountains, the earth itself and its kingdoms of life lower than the human, -- all are captives of nature except the human. No other created thing can deviate in the slightest degree from obedience to natural law.

Humanity has illimitable power by which it can and does rule the world of nature and miracles of accomplishment which characterize it, the discoveries in every realm of human research, inventions, scientific knowledge, ethical reforms and regulations established for the welfare of humanity, mysteries of nature explored, invisible forces brought into visibility and subjection, a veritable wonder-world of new phenomena and conditions before heretofore unknown to man now open to his uses and further investigation.

Humans have free will to serve the purpose of Creativity. Nature in all things even Humans are bound by Creation. However, the Soul develops wisdom along the way. Wisdom allows creation to learn and create new discoveries and life. Your Soul contributes to that Cause. If Human actions do not correspond to the Universal Laws, it will simply be dismissed. So, the purpose of Free Will is for You and All of us to learn more about ourselves and to be one with Creation.
Nature provides the foundation of Life. We are a part of that System. Ignorance just delays our development.

We're a captive audience just like every other animal on this planet. A volcano goes off.... well, everyone living there is affected the same way the animals and plants are.
There are two specific reasons we're on a higher level than animals...
1. Technology - Some animals use basic tools to do things. Apes can bash food with rocks, for example. Our technology allows us to mold our environment better than other animals. Instead of building a nest of twigs, we have air conditioning, heating, and plumbing in some places of the world. We can travel great distances in short periods of time. Since our bodies have no great defenses (armadillos, wasps, turtles), our bodies have no great offense (sharks, tigers, hawks), and we really can't live in the elements (no fur, hides, or blubber), so we survive on our brains and our ability to change what's around us.
2. Competition - We also have no natural predators. We happen to currently be the dominant species on earth right now. Because of this, we can take the time to develop our way of life. We're busy answering Yahoo questions because we're not dodging huge sharks riding on elephants. That's why we've created our own natural law.

I keep sowing love and compassion but I keep harvesting anger, injustice, hate and indifference. No your analogy doesn't work. The changes don't come like that, in a miraculous fashion, they may actually NEVER come in a lifetime's duration. These words are just an easy way to soothe the ego and give it hope in a seemingly hopeless world. The truth however is much bitterer than that. Many people out there are good hearted and they always get hardships jealousy, animosity and failures in their lives. I mean the greatest example of them all and which completely disproves your theory is JESUS. Look at it for a moment. Jesus was the embodiment of Love, he definitely sowed positive energy and feelings around him and look at what he got in return!!! What did he harvest? A "nice" crucifixion!!! The worst and most humiliating kind of death during that time period (Roman Era). If that doesn't convince that your analogy is wrong...I don't know what will. Furthermore, to say that sowing hatred will bring us hatred implies that we shouldn't do that and I think this is very unrealistic and selfish. If we were not meant to feel hatred in this world, hatred would not exist. It would never be experienced. We would be pure souls without negativity BUT we are not and that's why we are here and not on another dimension. Negative emotions exist b/c they are NEEDED in the grand scheme of things. We should not view them so negatively. They are our GUIDES as much as positive emotions are. Nothing in Creation is useless or 'bad'. Everything is Good and has a purpose. So you shouldn't reject negative emotions. They are a part of us and we should befriend them, not avoid them. The more you avoid them, the more they approach you and demand to be heard. So it could actually be the opposite of what you're saying: "When you don't sow hatred, you harvest more hatred"!!! because you ignore it and refuse to accept its existence and respect it for being what it is and playing its proper ROLE in this reality we are living in.

Gravity is a natural law. We cannot deviate from that, can we? Flying in a plane must be done in obedience to the law of gravity.
Even going to the moon must be done in obedience to the natural law of gravity.

" no other creature except humans can deviate in the slightest degree from natural law?"
LONDON (AFP) - A pair of gay flamingos have adopted an abandoned chick, becoming parents after being together for six years, a British conservation organisation said Monday.
Carlos and Fernando had been desperate to start a family, even chasing other flamingos from their nests to take over their eggs at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) in Slimbridge near Bristol.
But their egg-sitting prowess made them the top choice for taking an unhatched egg under their wings when one of the Greater Flamingo nests was abandoned.
The couple, together for six years, can feed chicks by producing milk in their throats.
“Fernando and Carlos are a same sex couple who have been known to steal other flamingos’ eggs by chasing them off their nest because they wanted to rear them themselves,” said WWT spokeswoman Jane Waghorn.
“They were rather good at sitting on eggs and hatching them so last week, when a nest was abandoned, it seemed like a good idea to make them surrogate parents.”
Gay flamingos are not uncommon, she added.
“If there aren’t enough females or they don’t hit it off with them, they will pair off with other males,” she said.

How is man not of nature? What natural law does man violate? Actually, more importantly, how do you even know that we are even aware of natural law? We've changed our theory of the natural law about gravity since the time of Christ - we seem to be on gravity 3.0 now - are we finally down to "the natural law of gravity"? Maybe. Maybe not.

Humans cannot either. Your reasoning is flawed here. Humans just discover how to use natural laws for their best interests as much as possible. You need to study more. What are you implying here, incidentally?
