"When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you." (Deuteronomy 18:9)

"Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God." (Leviticus 19:31)

I'll be fair, and phrase this one two ways. Don't answer both unless you want to, just think about the perspective that interests you the most.

1) What is threatening about the scientific method to fundamentalist religion? The scientific method is merely a technique for investigating phenomena. How is this threatening? Many of the results are pretty handy. Like say, understanding electricity so we can build computers. Is it fair to try and separate the ones you like from the ones you don't?

2) What is truly threatening about fundamentalist religions to the advance of science? Particularly when we apply it to a more global view where someone is going to be studying any particular bits of phenomena somewhere, anywhere. Is there a true threat to science from fundamentalism and what is it?

they would answer:

anything that is not of faith is sin
this is where faith comes in.
then it wouldn't be faith , would it?

so what if it's not faith?
what if it's proof AND faith?

why is there no other way around it but faith?

I suffer from extreme paranoia and it would really help for some guidance

There's no need for God to hide from everyone, when he can just show himself so everyone can see and believe.

If he didn't, they why do Christians think Homosexuality is such a sin. I know it is mentioned in the Bible, but wasn't it Paul that did so, and didn't he come awhile after Jesus did? What makes him an authority. If you are truly Christian, wouldn't you just want to follow ONLY the teachings of Christ (meaning what he is quoted as saying)?

I know JWs argue that Christians should not engage in any acts of violence no matter what. Is this true? Can we engage in acts of violence for the sake of peace and justice?

I don't. I think he is a serious disgrace to all evangelical Christians. Even though we are to hate sin, we are called to love the sinner (including our enemies). Agree or Disagree?

You all say that evoulationn is the only way we here. It doesn't matter which perticular way you beleive you take on Faith in our falliable sciece that its true. Of so the same question I posed to my Chem teacher 10 years ago and got a stupified look for ( she had no answer) is this. If we have life today where did it come from? I mean this before the first 1 celled object there was no life so how did just the right elements "accedently" come together and make a life? It sounds a bit reducilous to me when we see an intelligent design it every cell. Intellegant design must have a creator. You can't have an an accedent and see intellegence it just doesn't work

With the limbo thing. It would bother me if I had been defending the church, then the church said they were wrong. I know they hold it as a theory, but seriously, thats just to keep the egg off their faces.

So my question isnt the church stance, or the theory, but do you feel betrayed.

why do so many christians assume that i've never been sincere in my prayers in asking god to reveal himself to me? i hate to come across as arrogant or enlightened but you leave me no choice. i have spent the better part of my life praying, believing that if i got what i prayed for it was because of divine intervention and if i didn't it was just god's will. if you want to know why i lost my faith, it wasn't because of some traumatic experience in my life. i've never really lost anyone who was close to me. and i've never dealt with any struggle that i couldn't come to terms with. i simply just found no reason in believing anymore. it took something i wasn't willing to do most my life, mainly out of fear, and that was to question whether or not god really exists. in the end there wasn't reason i could come up with to believe that he did. so here i am.
