What is the true conflict between the scientific method and fundamentalist religion?

I'll be fair, and phrase this one two ways. Don't answer both unless you want to, just think about the perspective that interests you the most.

1) What is threatening about the scientific method to fundamentalist religion? The scientific method is merely a technique for investigating phenomena. How is this threatening? Many of the results are pretty handy. Like say, understanding electricity so we can build computers. Is it fair to try and separate the ones you like from the ones you don't?

2) What is truly threatening about fundamentalist religions to the advance of science? Particularly when we apply it to a more global view where someone is going to be studying any particular bits of phenomena somewhere, anywhere. Is there a true threat to science from fundamentalism and what is it?

1. Considering that fundamentalist religion adheres to denial, ignorance and lies in order to perpetuate their fruitcake views, it's no wonder that the scientific method is distasteful to them, as it exposes their fraudulant position.

2. Science cannot be threatened by religion, and never will be. Science doesn't consider religion, and makes no attempt to either prove or disprove any god or gods..
It is a method of explaining and understanding the natural world around us, and today, modern mainstream science has overwhelming evidence and verifiablity for it's conclusions.

Science has NO conflict with religion, however religious fruitcakes choose to call it an enemy, which should speak volumes about religious credibility, considering their warm and cozy world is a result of scientific knowledge..

I believe that the true conflict come from the fact that the scientific method can be skewed one way or the other .
(the glass is half full or not} {sense 1900 the fish population in the Mississippi is up 50% or sence 1800 is down 50%} and many times over the 1000's of years science has been proved wrong . the world is flat, you cannot go to the moon,the sun moves around the earth
where as fundamentalist think every thing is black or white .fact or not . everything we do requires faith . faith in God , faith that what they teach us in school is right.

kind of like a christian might say 1+1=2 always
and a scientest might say can you prove that it ALWAYS does

The problem--on both sides--is that there is a misunderstanding of the difference between TRUTH and FACT. This is hard to explain, so bear with me.

FACT deals with how things are. Fact is concrete. Fact is tangable. Science deals with FACT.

TRUTH, on the other hand, deals with how things should be, and what we can do to make things that way. TRUTH is an idea. TRUTH is intangable. Philosophy deals with TRUTH.

TRUTH and FACT can exist independantly. Both the religious fundamentalists and the atheistic scientists (those who place as much faith in the scientific method as the religious-types do their faith) fail to understand this simple concept. In their minds (in both cases) TRUTH can only exist in FACT.

Since the evidence is against the traditional seven-day creation model, the atheist scientists feel that this proves the whole of religious dogma to be bunk. Likewise, since the evidence is against the traditional seven-day creation model, the religious fundamentalists feel that the evidence must be false, or at least wrongly interpreted.

There are those out there that understand the difference between TRUTH and FACT--in both the scientific camp and the religious camp. Unfortunatly, all we hear are the to loud, ignorant sides of the story.

The scientific method is a threat to the fundamentalist religion because the evidence that it uncovers points to conclusions that run directly at odds with a literal reading of Genesis. This is extremely threatening the the literalists, who have wrapped their entire identities around the domga of their religion.

Fundamentalist religions are a direct threat to the advance of science. Opposition to advances in biology such as stem cell research threatens our position as a scientific leader. Outright denial of entire fields of science (biology, geology, astronomy), and vigorous efforts to get their superstitions and dogma taught as though it were science threaten the quality of education that our students desperately need.

The true conflict between the scientific method and fundamentalist religion revolves around one basic distinction between the two concepts. One seeks to understand reality and to reach reasonable conclusions consistent with that reality. The other demands blind, total submission to archaic dogmas, primitive myths, and generally delusional concepts that have no basis in reality nor relevance to modern life.

Religion is an oppressive force that finds itself facing a future of ever-increasing decline as science continues to demonstrate the completely erroneous nature of most of religion's pronouncements regarding reality and the sheer folly of so many of its ridiculous moral commandments.

Actually you cant seperate science from religion.In Islam ,the relationship is very tight in many verses .For example the most important fact in my religion is that there is only one god and there is a verse saying:(know that there is no god except Allah)
means that you have through knowledge ,whatever it is; science;environment;geology ...etc, should supprot an evidencethe above statement.Another example ,our prophet said:searching foreducation is a must for every muslim.And a third one ;the prophet said:he who walk a path to gather knowledge, god lead him a path to the paradaise .

there is not any thank you to persuade somebody that a definite faith is the "genuine faith". it relatively is my greatest situation with faith is they bypass around to human beings speaking approximately how theirs is the reality and each little thing else is incorrect, all of us else will burn in eternal hellfire... it relatively is only ignorant... i think that there is a definite component of fact in all religions... stuff like be a competent individual, handle others the way you may pick to be dealt with, ect... those are issues we are able to check from. yet asserting your faith is stable and others are incorrect is strictly why there are a variety of of of wars in this international... won't be able to all of us only stay which contain our variations?? Science discovered that every planet, in solar system, is revolving around the sun and also rotating about its own axis.

Science discovered that the Sun is moving at a speed of 12 miles per second, and it is going to a point called Solar Apex.

The science discovered atom can be divided.
Allah says in Holy Qur'an, Surah Sabah, Ch. No. 34, Verse No. 3. ‘When the unbelievers say that the hour will never come - tell them… it will surely come with the permission of the Lord who has the knowledge of the unseen, who has in His record, the minutest detail of an atom in the heaven and in the earth - and in His record is perspicuous things, smaller and greater than the ‘atom’.

The science discovered Water Cycle.
Allah says Holy Quran, Surah Al-Zumur, Ch. No. 39, Verse No 21 ‘Sees't thou not that it is Allah who sends down rain from the sky, and seeps it in the sources in the ground - in the springs in the earth, and causes sown seed of various colours to grow’.

Allah says in Holy Qur’an, Surah Muminun, Ch. No. 23, Verse No 18, ‘It is Allah who sends down rain in due measure, we are able to store it, and We are also able to easily drain it’.

Science discovered. Cytoplasm is the basic substance of the living cell contains 80% water.

Science has discovered that even the animals and birds live in communities like human beings and migrate.

Science discovered there is very striking resemblance with migratory programming in the nervous system of birds.
