Perhaps it is just fish bowl atmosphere of Yahoo Answers! But from an outsider's vantage point, it just seems like , your religion seems like a VERY tense affair, full of rules, constant judgement, comparisons, guilt, insecurity (I am always seeing Christians asking or worrying they are not measuring up and need other people's opinions about how good a Christian they are) and there is SO MUCH competition and nit picking over who is more Christian than whom in every aspect of people's lives. So many bible quotes and every which way of interpreting them to judge some OTHER Christian about what THEY are doing.....it just seems so exhausting! How do you deal with the pressure?

And that is just what I have seen a lot of you doing to EACH OTHER, your OWN fellow Christians.

I would like to think Yahoo Answers isn't reflective of the religion as a whole and things are actually more exaggerated here than in real life.

Is it? Or are you guys REALLY that persnickety ?

those who are just beginning their journey by discounting the devotions that the young ones use to help stay faithful? I think of St. Paul who talks about the younger ones needing milk while the mature ones do not but, what happens if you take the milk away from the young ones? I think they starve.

I keep seeing these silly "prove God exists!" and "prove that God doesn't exist!" questions and statements.

When I think one little step further than that, I could search for a reason to believe in a god. But, besides the no proof thingy, I also always fail to find any reason to believe in any gods.

But I might miss something. Can you give me one single reason that would show me that it might be useful for me to believe in your particular god or gods?

In a general sense, I have learned to be more discriminating in who I correspond with, from either side of the argument. I would much rather have an intelligible debate with an atheist who stands for a life perspective that appals me but uses their own words and experiences to convey their message than a devout Christian who cites and cut and pastes Bible passages to agree with me.

Does anyone else see the wisdom in this?

We can usually see a trend of a few more atheists one day, a few more fundamentalists another day, or a few more gays the next day...but, this week there has been some bizzaro stuff....

It's definitelty not as much fun as usual...not that it was that fun to begin with...but, gee...

Your thoughts?

Yesterday I was engaged in a debate about whether evolution is real or not, based on my model of antibiotic resistance. and the Christians went berserk saying its not true etc etc.

the bottom line is you cant have a baby if you're a virgin without sperm and that is simply IT. Can a Christian realistically ever dispute THAT? Because that would just be painful....

I think Mary was scared they'd stone her for putting it about. and then concocted an immaculate conception.

Nice try Mary, but like a glass of holy water, I can see right through you!

*awaits abuse*

God's DNA had to get in there somehow!

Is it because you are frustrated? I seldom use it, but I swear some folks just come on here to thumbs down every and anyone who counters their ideology or belief system.
Do you think that THUMBS down will magically erase any thing collaborating with the writer that is on this forum? Also is the NIT PICKING at spelling a way to avoid the REAl topic at hand? People obvioulsy don't care if they spell something wrong on here, knowing that the spell chweck is available. I think they are worried about more vital issues. LOL.. it's hillarious to me, how many times I have seen someone correct anothers spelling on here. *News Flash!!!!* No spelling errors on this forum doesn't mean, you are smarter than anyone... it simply means you USED spell check, because YOU care.

I think anyone that says they haven't been shaken by an opposing viewpoint (Atheist to Christian or Christian to atheist) is either lying or or too closed-minded to consider (or unfortunately even read) some of the answers they get.

I like (intelligent) contrary ideas because, somehow, they strengthen my beliefs after I have considered them. And I will admit, some have altered my thinking, at least a little.

Have any Christians been challenged, or even moved some, by an atheist's comment? Any atheists (same Q, but from the Christian camp)?

People say Jesus died for your sins to be forgiven. and I dont understand?

I know he was crucified but didnt THEY kill HIM? he didnt kill himself? And even if he DID, why does that allow for our sins to be forgiven?

How did he "die for us"? What has his death actually done for me? If I benefit from someones death is that a sin?

Im asking in seriousness despite being a nonbeliever dont throw any conversion tactics at me. i just wanna understand the logic of what ur saying.

I was brought up christian but over time i slow became more and more uninvolved with church and religion. I have always believed in God and Jesus. And want to get back in the saddle so to speak and go to church and such. But then I don't even know which one to start with.
There are several different churches near my house i don't even know what to choose. Like what is the difference in beliefs and practices between Presbyterian, and Episticol (sp?) or Baptist and Protestant? What are the jewish belief's? Can i go from being a christian to being jewish or are you born jewish? What is the best religion do you think? Or the more "true" religion?
