Have you ever lost a closed loved one and someone says to you when you ask them why God allowed this to happen, things happen for a reason? I know people mean well and it's probably said because of a lack of something else to say...but I don't think it's a very good thing to say.

What reason would God have for taking a child from it's mother? Or a mother from it's child?

And I'm not doubting his plan or spitting on his name or anything...I just genuinely want to know.

Put yourself in their shoes, if you just lost a child, would you want to hear 'things happen for a reason?'

I think it's a phrase that a person has to come to terms with and tell themselves.

And even if you don't believe in God, but this doesn't necessarily have to be about God...maybe you believe in kismet or serendipity.

I just want to know...what makes you tell someone this? It just seems tactless to me for someone's grief.

to God and the saints for a soulmate to come into my life. I've prayed for years and now am 40.

Is it possible I missed him, or God needs to whack me on the head, or should I just remain single? Is that my answer.

Any help would be great. THanks.

... but are skeptical about the existence of God? No one has seen or been on Pluto (many details about Pluto will remain unknown until 2015, when the New Horizons spacecraft is expected to arrive there.**). Many are certain about the atmospheric composition and size of Pluto, relying only on spectroscopic data and enormous telescopes. We don't have first hand experience on Pluto, but we assume it exists. So what is different about believing in God? Alot of people have first hand experience with God and His grace, but atheists still do not believe He exists. Puzzling....

Jesus Christ is coming folks....

Perhaps the non-believers would think the ailians took us away, since they don't believe in God.

I am afraid when that day comes, it maybe to late for some to change their minds.

How long will it take for Christians to become an insignificant minority? 100 years? 500? Or do you think it will be much sooner than that?

Or do you think this will never happen?

This question is for atheists and agnostics only.

Thank you for your answers.

I just read a post where Christians called homosexuality a sin, a perversion, sick, and they also wrote that God created man to find woman attractive. This is some of the most ridiculous garbage I've ever read on this site. Personally, I believe that people who think that way about homosexuality likely have latent homosexual desires that they aren't sure how to deal with and are scared of, so they lash out and label it as sick or a perversion. To those who think that homosexuality is immoral or a sickness, am I right? C'mon, you can be honest, nobody knows who you are.

Please try to keep an open mind as to the reasons that fewer and fewer people identify themselves as Christians?

People don't buy into Christianity as much anymore because our world is changing really quickly, and Christian denominations INSIST on changing nothing, and looking only to the thoughts of 2,000 year old men for their guidance.

The Bible is not irrelevant. It has beautiful stories full of wisdom and lessons that could benefit billions of people around the world. But that doesn't mean that everybody who INTERPRETS it necessarily knows what they're talking about.

We need to look beyond the Bible, and within ourselves, have doubts, ask questions, and for crying out loud... BE KIND TO OUR NEIGHBORS... that means liberals, homosexuals, and non-Christians alike.

Christianity has so much to offer, and it's being stifled by hard-nosed conservatives who get angry and discriminatory toward non-believers.

Lead by example. Non-Christians are not your enemy. Can you do this?

When some talk of OT Law, they say those were the laws for those people at that time. They may add that those laws -had- to be brutal because those were brutal times with brutal people.

But the Laws as given by Jesus are quite different from those brutal OT laws.

So when God is quoted in Leviticus as handing down those brutal laws, was God compromising His values by telling these brutal people to brutally put people to death for adultery and cursing their parents and so forth?

If the Love and Forgiveness of Jesus has given voice to God's true values, how do you explain God giving out laws with death penalties for all sorts of things that we do not believe warrant the death penalty?

Have we become a more civilized people than the God of the Old Testament?

If God will take away our sinful nature in heaven then how do we have free will anymore? If the very definition of free will is choosing between good and evil and I have no choice but to do good, then how can I be making a choice?

Ok, let’s just say that sexual orientation is a choice and the Christians are correct. By that account, the reason I am straight is because I choose to be. It has nothing to do with the fact that I find women sexually attractive. I am straight because I choose to be. That about sums up your beliefs correctly doesn't it Christians?????
