The Bible teaches us that the good works we do cannot make us acceptable to God. Titus 3:5 tells us that it is “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.” So, a Christian is someone who has been born-again by God (John 3:3; John 3:7; 1 Peter 1:23) and has put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8 tells us that it is “by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” A true Christian is someone who has repented of his or her sin and put faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone. Their trust is not in following a religion or a set of moral codes, or a list of do’s and don’ts.
A true Christian is a person who has put his or her faith and trust in the person of Jesus Christ and fact that He died on the cross as payment for sins and rose again on the third day to obtain victory over death and to give eternal life to all who believe in Him. John 1:12 tells us: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” A true Christian is indeed a child of God, a part of God’s true family, and one who has been given new life in Christ. The mark of a true Christian is love for others and obedience to God’s Word (1 John 2:4; 1 John 2:10).

Salvation is an ongoing process, not just a one time thing. Salvation must be worked on daily. How? By living the way God wants you to, by following the commandments, reading the bible, praying, going to church, helping others, being baptized, following and loving God with all your heart and soul, being Christ like.
"As the Bible says, I am already saved (Rom. 8:24, Eph. 2:5–8), but I’m also being saved (1 Cor. 1:8, 2 Cor. 2:15, Phil. 2:12), and I have the hope that I will be saved (Rom. 5:9–10, 1 Cor. 3:12–15). Like the apostle Paul I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), with hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ (Rom. 5:2, 2 Tim. 2:11–13)."

Read Romans 10:8-13. It says that if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart a person believes and is so justified and with the mouth he confesses ( declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms his salvation. Of course, repenting for your sins is a part of receivng your salvation. It doesn't have to be a long-drawn out process. It just needs to be sincere and from your heart.

Some people would say yes... others no.
Salvation isn't some ritualistic task that has finality and then you're all set.
Salvation comes after a life-long effort to do what's right. Doing what's right includes things like helping people, keeping yourself healthy, living in balance and neutrality when it comes to the other things God created, withholding judgment, being tolerant as possible, questioning your own motives, agendas, keeping an open mind about your own faith as well as the faiths of others, and being kind, among so many other things.

We are all born with sin because sin entered the world thru
Adam and Eve when they disobeyed God and listened to the lie of the devil. They ate from a tree that God told them not to eat from. We inherited this sin nature from Adam.
Sin separates us from God. In order to be reconciled to God, sin has to be paid for. That is why Jesus came to earth.
He came to take our punishment and to shed His blood for our sins. If we admit we are a sinner, confess this to God, believe that Jesus paid completely for our sins and want to follow Him, He will cleanse us and we will be in an eternal relationship that starts that moment of belief. The hard part is to admit how sinful we are and that we can never be good enough to get to heaven without Jesus' cleansing.

in 1 John 1:9 "IF" we confess our sins He is faithfull and just to forgive us our sins "AND" cleanse us from all unrighteousness, God takes us where we are but praise His name He does not leave us that way. Asking Jesus in our hearts is important but one must understand "IF" we Love Him keep His commandments John 14:15 means that our belief must be a living faith, we must BE-LIVE Him, satan in James 2:19 says satan believes and trembles, there is condtions upon which life is offered, free bible lessons www.amazingfacts.org talk to me also wgr88@yahoo.com

No, you have to endure to final salvation. What saves you is not the state of your soul when you come to belief but the state of your soul at death. Salvation is a lifelong process of sanctification and not a one time event.

You have to then be obedient to God and try to live a life as free from sin as possible. The Lord knows your heart. He knows whether or not you truly believe.
