How long will it take for Christians to become an insignificant minority? 100 years? 500? Or do you think it will be much sooner than that?

Or do you think this will never happen?

This question is for atheists and agnostics only.

Thank you for your answers.

Are you trying to predict the time of the apocalypse?
Or are you yearning for an age of enlightenment?
I would like to think that the percentage of adults who believe in the spiritual Santa Clauses will diminish significantly in the next 40 to 50 years...How else will humanity survive the coming storm of technological power?

Theists (those that believe in a God,) are anticipating the death of the world and many seem to be actually WORKING TO BRING IT ABOUT...Yes, society IS flawed, yes we have a long way to go before we work out our differences and figure out as a species, where we fit in the universe...BUT KILLING EVERYBODY THAT DOESN'T BELIEVE IN INVISIBLE SUGAR DADDIES IS A POOR WAY TO START!!!
If theists have their way, there will be a war to end all wars in honor of the almighties, human life as we know it will end...
As long as there are rational people with the courage to say "hey, I don't know for sure whats going on in the universe, but I'm willing to TRY to figure things out without relying on quick and easy answers," we might have a fighting chance...

I hope you didn't just take a pin off a grenade on this question lol. I am an Absolute Agnostic and I believe Christians will never become an insignificant minority. A minority, maybe but never insignificant. Same with Muslims and Jews. Even when will are out building cities on other planets, there will still be small groups of folks who believe.

I could not begin to tag a number of years onto that as that really depends on a lot of different social and political factors including who is in the white house and congress (unfortunately).

I think with every generation that passes you have more and more that question and educate themselves beyond their own beliefs and either leave christianity for other religions or take a more non-religious path. It will happen little by little.

We're in the age of Aquarius. (Technology), the age of Pisces has ended (Religion). I think this forum is showing something along the lines of what is coming. The religions of this world are for the first time being openly challenged....by those who were once a part of it.

Christianity speaks of it's own end. (not that they call it that, but I'm starting to see it differently. Yeah, go ahead and talk about ending your times. I think it's beginning to end, now. Or alter in ways that are more free flowing and embracing of life.

No more condemnation.

I think it's around the corner and will happen in our childrens lifetime.

I really don't have a good guess. I'm actually not even sure that they would become the minority.

Of course, if it does happen....I think it will be quick and suprise people....similar to how many border states/cities all of a sudden had a different ethnicity as the majority. --And no one get offended...that in no way was meant as an insult.

I don't know. Anyone who pretends to know is lying. However, atheism is the fastest growing attitude toward the divine, so IF (and it's a big "if") the growth rates continue at the same pace, then atheism will eventually be the majority and Christianity will be a minority.

There will have to be a new religion that comes along that offers more than Christianity.

hmm considering the rate at which the mormon church is expanding probably 100 years. but fortunatly i'll die before i have to see that kind of mayhem. either that or it will never happen. either that OR that or society will destory itself before any significant changes have time to happen

The religion of Christianity is dwindling by the numbers as of right now. I don't think that it will ever disappear totally. However the numbers will go down significantly. When that will happen no one really knows for sure.

Given it's taken Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, etc. about 140 years from almost total Xianity to ATHEIST MAJORITIES, I'd guess ~100 years or so. (Hope it's quicker!)

I think the 'net will speed the process considerably, as will the *new phenomenon* of Dawkins, Dennett, Harris, et al.
