Rabbi Saul (Paul of Tarsus) is perhaps the greatest unsung hero of Judaism.
Rom 11:1 - ........For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, [of] the tribe of Benjamin.
He knew that if he did not do something drastic concerning the “renegades” then the precious covenant given to the Jews could be lost forever and redirected to the followers of Jesus, the Jewish Messiah.
After reading about the two sons of Isaac where it says Jacob would even use deception to get the blessing of the covenant from his father it is not hard to see how a very religious Jew would do whatever was necessary to make sure Judaism maintained the covenant.

Rabbi Saul cut the renegades off from the Holy Covenant
Genesis 17:9-10 ---Then God said to Abraham, "As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.
Galatians 5:2 ---- Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
