Rabbi Saul (Paul of Tarsus) is perhaps the greatest unsung hero of Judaism.

Rom 11:1 - ........For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, [of] the tribe of Benjamin.

He knew that if he did not do something drastic concerning the “renegades” then the precious covenant given to the Jews could be lost forever and redirected to the followers of Jesus, the Jewish Messiah.

After reading about the two sons of Isaac where it says Jacob would even use deception to get the blessing of the covenant from his father it is not hard to see how a very religious Jew would do whatever was necessary to make sure Judaism maintained the covenant.

----------------------

Rabbi Saul cut the renegades off from the Holy Covenant

Genesis 17:9-10 ---Then God said to Abraham, "As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.

Galatians 5:2 ---- Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.

There can be no doubt that Paul of Tarsus is the principle architect of christianity. Similarly, there can be no doubt that Jesus was the author of gnostic/Nazarene thought- the arch-enemy of Paul and christians ever since.

Sadly, even the brightest cannot see through the clouds created by Paul. But there is one very simple story that illustrates the character of Paul.

When Paul was sent to Rome on the charges of killing James the Just, the blood brother of Jesus, he arranged for Pope Linus, the first pope, a british prince and son of Queen Boudica to set fires around Rome.

Over 250,000 innocent men, women and children died because of Paul and his desperation to escape justice.

His legacy was to be for 200 years Christianity was outlawed as the most evil cult ever to exist on Earth. During that time, the true word of Jesus flourished throughout the Roman Empire through the Gnostics, especially in Rome under Valentinus.

Paul was raised a perfect Jew proficient in all the works of the legalistic requirements of the Old Covenant. Then, Christ intervened into Paul's legalistic life-style transforming him from a conformer of law to the renewing mind-set of the New Covenant of GRACE - not race. Paul became a spiritual Jew on the inside (not remaining a physical Jew on the outside). Paul had a spiritual relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ now, going ! Gone were the days of the external circumcision and replaced by the inner circumcision of the heart, via the Holy Spirit. Paul knew that all the do's and don'ts of the Old Covenant were now, irrelevant to God and that the grace of Jesus Christ was the trumping, main, primary mover - the "ace" card ! All the Sabbath Day, Jewish holy days, 10 Commandment Keeping, circumcision amounted to zilch! Righteousness now, came by the grace and forgiveness of Jesus Christ - not legalism. Christ surely was of no significant value to those who attempted to attain to righteousness by the legalistic practices like circumcision by the law. Paul knew exactly what Christ's sacrifice was conveying to the Christian. Righteousness is a spiritual issue not a physical one.

Such a good question. I was among those who considered Paul's writtings to be missplaced in scripture. And whilst I was writting a lengthy essay on this, I stumbled upon scripture that told me not only that I was wrong, but to examine his writtings again with prayer.
The scriptures that showed me this were 2Peter 3:15-17. So we must be careful not to discount Pauls teachings, but equally careful not to misapply them.

15 And account [that] the longsuffering of our Lord [is] salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

16 As also in all [his] epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as [they do] also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know [these things] before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

As for Galatians 5:2 If you be circumsised in the flesh, let it be because you want to do it for whatever reason you see fit. But do not let others tell you that you must be circumsised in order to be a follower, or in order that you might be saved. The Spirit will convict each of his sin, it is not for the church, nor a priest or minister to do. If we obey the Spirit, or indeed disobey the Spirit, that remains between us and the Spirit. and as we know from what Yahushua (Jesus) said, Blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.

Shalom

I can see your confusion. If you follow the ministry of Paul (Saul), you will notice that in the beginning, he preached to the jews in Antioch along with Barnabas. Later in his ministry he was commissioned to preach to the Gentiles. In Acts 15 you see the new church had a problem with Gentile believers. They were not circumcised at birth like the Jews and the Jewish believers wanted them to become Jews first then become Christians. (A two step method) The council of Jerusalem met and discussed this for a good solution to the problem. Acts 15: 1-19 shows the descion that Gentile believers did not have to become Jewish first to be Christians. They did, however decide on four rules for the new believers.

19"It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood. For Moses has been preached in every city from the earliest times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath."

The Galatians 5:2 passage is a letter to the Christians in Galatia who were Greek and not Jewish. The question of circumcision was being debated in this church and Paul was telling them that salvation was not gained through following the Jewish law. He was telling them that their actions were not the way to gain salvation but only trhough faith. (Lots of people want to get to heaven through doing good deeds and not through faith in Christ's death and resurrection.) Hope this helps.

its funny, really.

Jesus was simply not the messiah of Judaism. he did not do what the jewish messiah was supposed to do. he did not qualify to be the jewish messiah, if he was as christianity believes he was...

and do you actually *KNOW* the story of jacob and esau? it wasn't prophetic or symbolic like your intepereting it, its quite obviously literal. or at least not as your imagining it.

you seem to be very confused. Jesus serves no purpose or relevance to Judaism. there is no reason there would be some conspiracy or high-up sabotage like that.

The message here is that almost no adult male would have wanted to become a Christian, if they were forced to undergo circumcision ... and even those who would have agreed may not have survived.

Clever! Very clever!

Yes, and then he whipped out his Roman citezenship, and took the covenant to Rome. Real clever.
