Because they have been force-fed religion their entire lives. They have grown up accepting it as truth.

I think it's because many people believe religion to be something "unquestionable". The popular idea that faith is totally separate from reason makes it more like choosing sides in a sports game rather than actively thinking through and questioning the claims of a given religion.

Some people believe that religion is the only righteous way to live in such a "sinful world" and they don't feel that there is anything else worthwhile. I mean, being promised salvation and life after death and such or you're damned, you would go for that without question, right? I personally think that it is difficult not to question my religion because being curious is just a part of human nature...

In adhering to your requests, I will simply say, there is only one truth. Life is a search for truth. You can't look to any one person or group for a truth about a religion. You must look to its teachings.
What you are asking is a religious question, and you are asking us to answer such a question with out the use of religion. Would you ask a math question and request that no one use numbers, symbols, or mathematical terminology?
Simply, search for the truth. It alone is the answer.

Personally, everyone I know who is religious has earned their faith by lots of questioning and doubt (what can I say, I hang out with a lot of philosophers).

People's spiritual journeys are highly personal, and inside of themselves. So, even though it may appear that religious types are robot-automatons who blindly follow religious edicts without question, there may be more than meets the eye.

They are to busy in the world. They are "told" what the truth is. They are "told" not to question. They are sheep. I myself am a goat, I roam the mountains, every now and then I enter the lowlands. I am not to surprised any more by the chains used to bind the free into slaves. The person has the key although many don't know this because of unworthy teachers. ~ : )

I think some of it comes from the fact that some people were raised with their faiths from birth and have had nothing happen that would turn them away from it. Also, anyone who chooses to convert to any faith does so after much thought and exploration. Therefore, they're going to trust it unless something happens that destroys that trust.

Because religion faith is blind.
Another reason to be an atheist.

For some reason they feel they are not adequate enough in their own lives to be in charge - life is just too difficult for them to stomach on their own, hence; they need a God to lean on in the bad times, and a devil to blame for it....

Also, they cannot face their own mortality... believing in an afterlife is a relief from knowing that death is final.

It all goes back to the fragility of the human ego - feeling that we were created for some divine purpose!

I really don't know anyone who has a religion who does not have any questions about it. The thing can be so complex, only the very simple-minded wouldn't have any questions.

I won't say there's only one because that would cause a very big arguement. But I will say it's because of faith. That people actually died for a supposedly made up man in the sky.
