I have always considered myself a devoted christian. I was never open to any other way of thinking. That is untill a year ago. Now I thirst for knowledge but still fear that if God is real i will go to hell. I have chronic depression and want to search for some answers and healing. please help. My mind is open.

I am asking you specifically because I was thinking about it, and. Personal beliefs aside how can we exist without a causeless cause? We acknowledge the big bang, but what caused it. Things don't just explode from nothingness right? There is a theory that says the universe expands and contracts, but what made the universe to begin with? and what was that stuff made out of? and so on and so forth.

I kind of have a similar question about atoms, how do we know it doesn't get any smaller? I have not been able to locate so much as one "real" picture of an atom because they are all representations.

Can a non-catholic christian please point to me the exact Vatican document where catholic doctrine talks about praying to Mary. I need facts on Catholic doctrine so if you want to carry on about their statues and how your local old lady catholic prays to Mary then I'm not interested, I just want to know if there is a doctrine

I am a dedicated Catholic, but I am having a crisis of conscience. The church teaches something that I believe is wrong. Does that mean I am no longer a Catholic, or that I should leave the church?

Christians take this reference from John of Patmos, who was clearly a disturbed individual, and try to dishonestly tell people that it refers to the whole 'bible'. There wasn't a bible during this time, just a series of books, letters and gospels; many of which John of Patmos was not even aware of. In fact, Revelations did not even become a part of the collection until at least a century after it was written. Read this verse very carefully and you'll see that John was referring to his own delusional and schizophrenic book, and not the 'bible'.

"For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book; If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." Revelation 22:18-

Oh the lies that must be perpetuated!

then how do they explain fossils millions of years old, geology palientolgy. The fact of differing stages of evolution found in fossils with timelines to correctly match them. If an actual christian could answer this honestly it would be great. I want to know what you really think?

I'm serious... do people (who believe in god that is) really think that god is a 'he,' with like male parts and everything?
And if so, (for all you Christians) couldn't Jesus then just be the result of a drunken weekend fling with Mary?

I've been hearing a lot about high schools (at least in Texas) offering classes on the bible as an elective!!! I'm sorry, but I don't want my tax dollars going to that kind of thing unless there is an elective for all religious manuscripts, the Qaran, the Torah, the Book of Mormon, Hindu and Buddist manuscripts (don't know what they're called). Thoughts? Arguments?

I really don't have a problem with the Amish or other groups that have long standing, even extremely religious cultural beliefs.

I also have my opinions about the treatment of the remaining Samaritans in Israel, the Sami tribes and Coptic Christians and I think they should be allowed to continue their culture if they chose.

American Evangelicals, however are a different matter altogether.

Didn't Jesus say to preach the word and if a group rejected it, that was it? I am pretty sure about this, and I have read the Bible many times. I must have missed the follow up memo about forcing them to convert or continually arguing the point until the objective is achieved or overtaking governments and outlawing dissent.

Christians in Europe don't bother me, I don't feel the need to enlighten Maronite Catholics from Lebanon.

In the debate between Theists and Nontheists, more would be gained by focusing on the real problem, instead of attacking all Theism, whatever its form.

I laughed my a$$ off when I saw it. (It's on the yahoo front page but it's a streaming news story)
I can tell that there is one "physicist" who will be out of a job soon.
Apparently this guy is a born again (big surprise) who thinks he can hoodwink people into believing that god exists (it doesn't of course) by pretending to use physics or math to "prove" his point.
I for one would LOVE to see the slapping he's going to receive at the hands of his colleagues. It's going to be epic.

if we would recite them in our national language we will be able to understand what we are saying. While we recite in Arabic though we know the translation or not we are not able to understand what we are actually saying to Allah.

You may or may not know, but free will does not exist as many understand it to. There is no magical soul that makes decisions. It is a vast amount of interactions between various stimuli and some random processes here and there, in the end, we do what we do because of the functioning of them all. Someone that studied the slightest bit of neurobiology would know this..

However, I guess it is stupid of me to think that any theist would actual study, or be able to comprehend neurobiology anyway right? So they continuously use the free will cop-out so that any individual has complete control over their very existence and being. Somehow though, God always manages to avoid responsibility for his behavior...

If you haven't and you aren't theist, there are many good books out there for laymen. One interesting theory on this is Hume's Fork. Simple but sensible.

it's just so annoying that belief is talked about as though it's true. it's only real/true for that person no one else. that doesn't make it a fact.

so please stop referring to your belief as though you've found the scientific proof for the existence of god.

also please stop spouting dogma, we've heard it all before and it's just so inane.

I had people tell me that Morminism is like Christianity, but I think its a fake religeon. Either they are hipocrites or they are lost and confused in their religion.

Can anyone answer this? Will the world end with the Mormon's belief, or will it end with the Christian's way of Judgement day.

Why do Catholics have to go to confession? If Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for our sins and so that we could have direct communion/access to the Heavenly Father when we pray. Why go to a priest to confess if they cant do anything for you...shouldnt we go directly to the source Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our faith? What d you think?
