I have my faith with the holy spirit. And NO ONE can take that from me. But what I don't understand is why some of my fellow Christians r saying our god is the only 'true' god? Come on, that is arrogant and ignorant. Do you really think this is the only religon in this world? And don't go into the bible to quote something because do you not remember that it was MAN who wrote the bible? There was also a committee who VOTED!!!! on which stories to take out and which stuff to keep. So please I love my God and I have faith in him. But I am not going to say that he is the only God out there. And as a good Christian, I am learning more about other religons to expand my horizons. I am not self centered with my faith so why do I find some of my fellow Christian brothers and sisters r so self-centered with our God?

Are their cult members not smart enough to read a bible on their own and do the research?

Everyone knows that JW's read their watchtower literature more than the bible, is it any surprise that they are so brainwashed(deceived)?

my professor insists that it was not, that there was no census at this time.

However, according to my Oxford Annotated Bible's commentary, there were censuses in 28 BCE, 8 BCE, and 14 CE. Couldn't the one of 8 BCE been the one that Luke is talking about? The birth of Jesus is usually said to have been between 6 and 4 BCE, but this is based on the fact that Herod died in 4 BCE, and according to the NT, Herod ordered the killing of all children under 2 years in an attempt to kill Jesus. So apparently 2 years had passed since the birth of Jesus, thus we could assume that if the Herod story is historical, that Jesus would have been born by say 6 BCE. But it could have been earlier, because the NT does not say how long after this Herod died, or how old Jesus was when Herod died. Perhaps he was born in 8 BCE.

Furthermore, my prof says that it is unrealistic to have people returning to their birth place for a census. But wouldn't Luke have known how impractical it was, and not....

Why do so many Christians assume that to be true?

And why do they assume that I -haven't- read the Bible when I tell them I'm an atheist?

I'm not talking about all Christians here, mind you. But seriously, I've been told to read the Bible like 3 out of 3 times this month alone after a Christian coworker found out I was atheist.

Just for fun...who here thinks that God caused the Titanic to hit an iceberg and sink? Does no one else find it interesting that it was said "God himself couldn't sink this ship" just before her maiden voyage? I'm sure there were lots of greedy worldly people on board...

The last question was too easy to find by google search.

Here's a better one for them...

In Revelation, it is written that God locked Satan away for about 1000 years. It is believed by the most notable Biblical scholars that this already happened in history.

What event in history marked the beginning of that long period of time that Satan was locked away, and what would be the purpose of God locking Satan away for that amount of time?

I already know that atheists don't believe in God, but can they pretend for a minute that they do believe and answer the question anyway?

Nobody but crazy people would reject God, and crazy people aren't responsible for their decisions.

So doesn't the existence of Hell mean God knows that loving him and obeying him isn't exactly a great joy for everyone, and anyone who doesn't like it he'll toss into hell?

Doesn't the existence of a garbage can imply the existence of garbage?

Thus doesn't the existence of hell mean God knows he's not a joy to all people?

Why would knowing a god not be a joy?

Ladies and gentlemen...first of all, the drinks I am passing around are whatever drink you choose. I'm drinking Wild Cherry Pepsi, but as long as no one gets behind the wheel, you may choose whatever BEVERAGE you want to drink from my bar.

In my carbonated stupor...or perhaps because I'm almost a College Graduate...I've come to an astounding realization after nearly a year in this forum...When we share something fun like a drinking game, we actually can get along...

So...here's my question...what is it about something as corny as this drinking game that gets people to actually get along?

Hey, if Jesus could sit down with the taxpayers and the sinners, don't you think he probably could sit down with a bunch of people in a bar, even if he didn't drink alcohol?

I am curious about the position of contemporary theologians on the resurrection of Christ. I've encountered a number of "Bultmannians" who regard it as merely metaphorical. Does anyone have a list of some big names who believe that Jesus was actually resurrected from the dead? I know Richard Hays and Jurgen Moltmann are in the latter camp. Any others? Is Walter Brueggemann? Sandra Schneiders? N.T. Wright? Elizabeth Schussler Fiorenza? John Shelby Spong?

Some people are being quick to blame God for what happened.
Did you EVER THINK HE WAS TRYING TO WARN PEOPLE WITH THE TWO BOMB THREATS?

HE WAS LETTING THESE PEOPLE KNOW SOMETHING WAS GOING TO HAPPEN.

They chose to ignore the warning.

They always say "it doesn't work like that" or simply shrug it off or get angry?

If their Bible is telling the truth these experiments should work if tried in full faith. Are they telling me their faith isn't strong enough, that they know their beliefs are B.S.?

Back during the Great Depression, there was a black lady who lived in an area of Beaumont called the Pear Orchard. This lady did some shopping in downtown Beaumont and had one dime left to catch a bus and go home. As she was waiting for the bus, a beggar came by and asked her for a diime. Back then you could get a great hamburger for a dime, not one of those little bitty things.
She gave the beggar her last dime and started walking home. A neighbor drove by and told her he had to go into town to get some things and if she would go with him, he would take her home. She did so. While she was there she got something a lot of people wanted, a job, a job as a porter at Morgan and Lindsey. She was able to save up enough money to buy a house. She always said it would never have happened if she hadn't given a beggar her last dime.
I don't know if I could do that. How about others, could you.

Here's the irony -> When something positive happens, religious folk give God the credit, but when a tragedy occurs, he gets none of the blame.

i've read a lot of questions that stated that the VA shooter was a muslim because he had some tattoo on his hand. Now alot of simple minded folks are calling it a terrorist act by an Islamic fundamentalist.
My question is what if he was Christian? does that make him a Christian terrorist? or just a sick deluded man?

The dead who didn't believe in the Resurrection, cannot be part of the 1st Resurrection.

So why do they baptize for the dead? What good does it do?

The rest of the dead (not part of the 1st Resurrection) will be part of the last Resurrection, when the rest of the dead stand before God to be judged according to their works.
