Why do so many Christians assume that to be true?
And why do they assume that I -haven't- read the Bible when I tell them I'm an atheist?
I'm not talking about all Christians here, mind you. But seriously, I've been told to read the Bible like 3 out of 3 times this month alone after a Christian coworker found out I was atheist.

Umm. yeah. Thanks for reading the rest of my question guys. I already knew that reading the Bible doesn't make you Christian.
I was more interested in the follow up.
Oh, and Samurai Jack:
It is true, my avatar has changed to a girl. What's worse, it's not just my eyes bleeding -_-'
How unfortunate.

No, it will just make you more knowledgeable about Christianity than at least 50% of Christians.

Your question is ,quote.."If I read the bible will that make me a Christian..."No" It makes you a mature open minded person who wants to understand the importance others '
who hold it highly think by reading it and why simply a book can have an high impact on so many people and why if it does that it would......As I have said the bible or scriptures
are a remarkable ,beautiful ivery highly ,very high master
piece on the face of the earthThere is no book on the face of the earth (others are similar so therefore very same ) or has ever been in the whole history of time as remarkable as such
everyones "(Bible)"If you were such an atheist you cannot deny this as a "fact"then you may realise how in fact remarkable it is.......

No. The Bible is a piece of text. To become a Christian you have to apply the teachings of the Bible to everyday life. You have to believe in Jesus Christ. You have to confess that he is your Lord and Savior and that you believe he is the son of God.
I guess they assume that as an atheist that you haven't read the Bible because they think that everyone that reads the Bible will enjoy knowing about Jesus and would want to develop a personal relationship with him.
My suggestion is to let them know that you have read the bible but you just didn't buy into what you read.

I'd assume the opposite. That is how I decided that I'm not christian. I read the book. If you read the bible and then decided that you were a christian, I would look down on you. I would assume that you must have some serious mental problems.

no more than reading Sports Illustrated will make me a great football player.
But its like anything else, you should look into it, how can you truly be an atheist until you have investigated all the possiblities?
You might be amazed at whay you will learn!!!!!!!!
I think you should spend at least the same amount of time you spent learning about atheist? Or evolution, or what ever it is that you believe. Onlye seems right to study all the avenues.

I guess it depends on you. The Bible can be just a weird collection of stories, some horrific, and advice for other people in another time. But the Holy Spirit can reveal God's heart through the Bible to you if you're open/interested.

Rhetorical question.
Better question:
"If I read the Bible with real intent, wanting to know if it was true, would that make me a Christian?"
Answer: Most likely

Reading the Bible is what made me an Atheist.
Christians don't read the entire thing like they would any other book. They take a verse from here and patch it onto a verse from there and add a sprinkle of fairy dust.
They learned long ago that it must be in some sort of code, because if you read it sequentially, you'd have to be insane to believe it.

Just reading the bible does not make you a Christian, many bible readers are "sunday" Christians, and as soon as church is over so is their "good" behavior.
