Just for fun...who here thinks that God caused the Titanic to hit an iceberg and sink? Does no one else find it interesting that it was said "God himself couldn't sink this ship" just before her maiden voyage? I'm sure there were lots of greedy worldly people on board...

Captain Obvious says: Well, since no one has ever seen God come down and cause an event himself, of COURSE he uses a medium..such as a Captain who had 1 too many beers etc. Give me a non-obvious answer...

The line that "God himself couldn't sink her/this ship" REALLY WAS said. I have never seen the movie.

You know you bring up a valid point there. But I have to keep my stance on this and other things like it, and say we really don't know.

I find it odd that a book called "Titan" that was written long before Titanic's time was somewhat like the Titanic disaster. The book was about a steamship that had almost the same dimensions as the Titanic. The ship in the book also hit an iceberg and sank the same day as Titanic!

I feel like people worshipped and praised the ship and thought that it was greater than God. Even at that,I believe that God would have let it slide if they wouldn't have said that He himself couldn't sink it and if they didn't put that in the newspaper! The whole disaster reminds me of the bible story,"The Tower Of Babble"...or something like that.?
If they would have only treated it like any other ship,it would not have sank.

You’ve certainly asked an interesting question, although I see it to be serious than funny. For me, every event involving God’s creation as man and nature, God must have something to do with it. What is created by God cannot be spurned by what is built by man. Besides, the Lord has spoken through Bible: “You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come." (Luke 12:40) Thus, the unexpected sinking of the Titanic was a good example. Happy are those who were prepared for they have surely experienced a fantastic voyage into their ultimate destination.

To start with, God does not sink any ships.Have you forgotten, he is the forgiving God. When the man told them to run the ship at full speed, to get to where they were going ahead of time, to make the news, that's the one, and he didn't die in the end. It was night time and at that time they didn't have the big lights to see ahead. God can not stop every bad thing from happening here on earth. That's what HEAVEN is all about. God does no bad, but with the devil and all the evil, even then, things happen. You want a HAPPY, LOVING,ALL GOOD and NO BAD way to spend eternity, make God a REALLY BIG part of your life. Blessed be Always -

The Titanic didn't I feel didn't sink by God. God himself still couldn't of sunk the ship if he did. By having more layers of Iron in the front of the ship. Also if the water tight doors were sealed off from the top. Plus more water pumps. With those three things they still wouldn't of needed any lifeboats. But having some makes the ship look safer. Just my opinion.

The fact is, the Titanic was very small and weak to survive against a gigentic nature made iceberg. They should have consider this before the voyage.

No, I think it was because the basoon wasn't watching that side of the ship and they couldn't turn in time. It was a very clear night and that makes icebergs very hard to see until they are right next to you.

That line was just used in the movie, not in real life; although some passengers may have said it. I'm obsessssssssed with that movie; I should know this. ;] As for the god question, no because I don't believe in him.

no, i don't think so because an imaginary concept such as God cannot have any impact in reality like making a ship hit an iceberg

It sunk because the crew were stupid and let the ship hit a freakin' iceberg.

I think there's a theological distinction between God causing something to happen and God allowing something to happen.
