Does anyone think that since they decided to take prayer out of school and the pledge of allegence this could be the cause for the recent number of horrific events that are happening in schools and on campuses in the u.s.?

By saying this and having assemblies it put a certain order of disciplin in the atmosphere, meaning you knew what you were there for.

To the yop contributer if you read carefully you'd have saw allegiance also I asked if by doing that if the sense of order was removed lik the pride the army has the feel of loving free education which most countries don't have it's like it maintains order!

No, I dont feel that there is one specific "cause" per se. The combination of causes would be a poor home environment at some stage (meaning lack of discipline or too much as in abuse), lack of others noticing subtle changes in a person that could possibly lead to destruction down the line, and outright depression. By taking organized prayer out of school will not stop kids who are true believers from praying. Nor would it directly lead to the destruction that is occurring everywhere around the world.

I think the media has a lot of influence on the rate of crime and putting mandated prayer into school has no bearing on this. Having prayer and pledging allegiance in school are imposing to those whose beliefs differ. Many religious persons feel that prayer is personal and of a quiet matter. A person can be a good citizen and respect the laws of the land without giving allegiance to the flag, which admittedly is an emblem and shows patriotism. When someone chooses not to salute it, does that show a disrespect for what it stands for. No! It is when someone observes those laws which show respect. School assemblies can be used to bring people together to speak about what is important which is showing encouragement and respect for each other.

By this, it sounds like you are using religion as a scapegoat to justify an act, when in fact looking at situations from a logical perspective, you will find that individuals who commit crimes such as shotings in school yards could have gone for years harbouring feelings and thoughts of those crimes.

The fact this comes at a time when prayer is no longer allowed in the public education system is a coincidence and nothing more.

For all you know, the cause can be from a mental illness.

Please keep in mind that other countries do not hold prayer in public schools, out of respect for all different religions of their students.
yet, the developed countries do not have as much school disruption as in more violent American society.

Religion is a most personal choice. It should neither be flaunted nor imposed. The time used for prayer and pledges could be used to get on with class and learn more basic reading, writing, science/math, music/arts, and essential life skills
The decline of education is due to the amount of wasteful activity in our schools. from pizza day --to hat day--casual day-- this holiday--that pep rally--ra-boom bah!. so many excuses to be social, but not applied.
social and religious or sport endeavors should be a natural extracurricular function. That's what family is for. Parents are too busy working to buy the latest fashion for children and little things like food and books.
Sports clubs and arts organizations, full time child care are very efficient, the public should insist on separation of school and non academic electives.
There are too many humans in institutional cages, friction is inevitable. smaller schools, closer to home, user friendly paperwork, short and small, saves trees, saves lives.

electives and sports distract teachers and students; that leaves so many pupils out in left field and builds up resentment. let's diffuse the next generation.

First, I certainly do not know the mind of God. His thoughts are not ours nor his ways ours.

But looking back on the wrath of God over his choosen nation of Israel it is certainly possible. America has called herself a christian nation. God is on our money, in our pledge and many other aspects of our daily lives. If this is true it should be remembered that God is a loving Father who will chasten his children when they go astray. But I certainly do not think that God allows this violence as a act of revenge.
Also I must say that in my personal opinion if prayer were allowed in schools, students would possibly be more moralized. I know nothing for sure but I as everyone else have my opinion and personal views

Although it's surely not the only reason, yes, when we take God out of school, we also take morals out of school. If right and wrong are taught as relative, who is to say all the violence and killing are wrong?? If kids had a better foundation of knowing absolutes, we just might have safer schools. Of course, parents can and should also give their kids that background.

"meaning you knew what you were there for."

What, you were there for prayer? No, I think the horrific pressure that we are subjected to, the appallingly horrible things we put into our bodies, and our reliance on prescription drugs and remedies instead of natural ones are the reasons people lose it. People don't sleep and rest enough, are under constant stress on the way to, during, and on the way home from work; the average worker gets 2 weeks of vacation a YEAR; the pressure cooker we live in is just ridiculous.
No, I don't think the absence of prayer in school has ANYTHING to do with it at all.

Well lets look at the evidence. 91% of Americans believe in god, you do your best to get your own theocracy.............vs other countries (yes there are OTHER countries in the world) first world countries with less christianity and better gun control - and guess what - they don't have the same problems.

Yep ......here it comes again..............didn't you guys run that whole line after Columbine. Anything to avoid the real issues I guess.

I would never let my children go to a school where there were prayers.

Have you ever wondered why tragedies like this simply never happened in more atheistic countries like Norway, Holland, Sweden, etc, etc ?

Have you ever wondered why those same countries also have much lower murder rates, STD's, abortions, unwanted teenage pregnancies, etc, etc, than Christian nations like the USA?

Also wondered why those same atheistic nations don't have legalized gun ownership?

I live in Holland. I'm 100% sure that none of my neighbors owns a gun. That's a pretty comforting idea when I go to sleep, really.

Truth is: tragedies like this have nothing to do with religion. They are caused by us: society. Society is as strong as its weakest link. Make the society more loving, more understanding and these things won't happen. We're all to blame.

No, I don't. I think that the recent number of horrific events happening in schools have nothing to do with prayer and everything to do with people having problems that aren't getting solved, such as bullying, self-esteem issues, parents working longer hours, feelings of alienation, and so on and so forth.

If you think problems magically appeared when prayer was taken out of schools, you should get your reality checked.
