Science is based on the tautology 1=1, yet science is incapable of proving 1.

Science is a human endeavor and incapable of absolute perception (there are no absolute measurements in science)...therefore all scientific belief is, in fact, on the basis of faith (trust that the belief is true).

Science is conditional truth, not truth. Every scientific "truth" or "fact" (i.e. f = ma) is based on the assumption of conditions that can never be fully known, understood, or delineated.

Therefore, faith and science are not antonyms; science is merely faith applied.

Neither are truth and faith antonyms, as all truth (or "facts") must be accepted by faith (trust that the belief is true).

I know this recognition is unacceptable to people desiring a quick dismissal of "all things religious," but exactly how is science not based on faith?

Prove that science is truth.

(And the pure sophistry that "science is about fact, not truth" can only be uttered by blithering idiots.)

I got saved on January the first, but then "quit" a couple days afterward. I think its only because I have one question, though. I don't fully understand. If I was a saved man for 20 years, lets say, and only sinned (lied) once in that time, am I going to Heaven? Please give excerpts out of the Bible.

I feel saved though, I come on here everyday, and feel it, you know?
So, am I saved? (I feel more of a Christian than when I did get saved!)

Not trying to bash Christianity. Even a skeptic like me agree in Jesus' teaching of humility, peace and simplicity. But many followers, not all, don't seem to practice these teachings. Now, do you think Christianity is falling out of favor? Decadent? I think so. But again, is not bashing Christianity but telling an honest truth. What do you think?
P.D.: I admit to be somewhat arrogant. But at least I have the humility to admit it.

If one compares some of the teachings of Jesus to the teachings of the Buddha, one finds teachings too similar to be coincidence. I don't quite understand why it is offensive that Jesus might have been inspired by some of the teachings of the Buddha and incorporated them into his own teachings. Why is this offensive to some? The messages being love and compassion.......

SoOo... have we ever found any animal fossils remains... that where "transitions" from one animal to another? I mean Science does say that Amphibians "Micoevolved" to become reptiles, but nothing ever dug out the ground has supported the theory of evolution. Darwin only notices different color birds not birds forming to another type of animal. Does it seem logical that 10 plus billion years of accidental, random atomic collisions resulted in the formation of some simple form of life? Many of you bash the bibles accounts for creation and ask us to "prove" it, but why is no one ever been able to prove evolution?

Like, why did the puritans, (or something like that) think that a religion could be changed, did God tell them so? I mean from the first Christian church, the Catholic one, to protestant..Like, you can't change a religion because you don't like it..LOL...why did they become protestant, what are they protesting?

According to the ancient Vedic scriptures, there exists only DHARMA (Righteousness) or ADHARMA (Unrighteousness). The term Hinduism was not used and a religion was not associated to Vedic People until Muslim invaders encountered Vedic People.

I imagine if a man could be a nun that he would wear a different outfit but from looking at it you would still know he is a nun. I see no reason why men cannot become nuns.

Why don't you like them? I'm a Christian and I can't get enough of them but some people tell me that its "the devil" or "the work of Satan" What the hell. Literally. Not everything that looks scary is a demon. And whats wrong with Harry Potter? Is it witch craft? We got over that centuries ago. You're all acting like babies. The only reason you do believe that is because when we did have witch craft the church came up with some weird idea that the devil was working through them. The Bible may say stuff about playing with the devil and when it comes to stuff like Necromancy then your getting in hot water. But the bible never literally says that which craft is the work of Satan. If you believe that you might as well believe the old story of where our sneeze tradition came from. They said back in the day that whenever you sneezed a demon was upon you and thats why they said "God bless you". Tell me why you would believe witchcraft is the work of the devil and not that.

If I have faith in something, does my faith indicate that this "something" is necessarily real and/or true?

What if I have faith in something that you don't believe? Is my faith indicative of truth then? How can you tell if it is or isn't?

Basically... is faith a trustworthy method to ascertain truth?

...or stupid comments?? Im absolutely serious when I ask this:

Ive been watching the nature series "Planet Earth" on the Discovery channel. Absolutely stunning video showing the immense beauty of our world. I can certainly understand why people look at that beauty and see an intelligence behind it. While I do not agree with creationism or intelligent design, I can certainly understand how the beauty and awe we see around us might lead others to think it was created...

However, I wonder - when you watch nature shows and see a lion brutally maul a baby antelope, or see a polar bear attempt to attack a walrus but instead get his butt whopped and then it dies from starvation - right there amongst the very walruses he was trying to eat.... Do you see God in that? Do you see intelligence or beauty in the "design" of brutal killing in order to survive???

I really wonder about that...

Everytime a question about a religious view of a women's role question comes up there's always one woman (usually a Christian or Muslim) who responds that women who work outside the home don't care about their families or are afraid to take on the role of housewife and mom... why is that?

I am glad they took Imus off the air and I feel that anyone who does not ageree is as gilty as he is of speading hate. If we will not be truthful about our feeling about each other we will contenue to have these episodes of race divideness.I am a black man and I make 90% of my living off of white people and the other 10% comes from minoritys how can I not like white people. Most black people feel just like I do most of us would not be where we are at if it were not for white people. Lets take the mask off and see each other for who we really are. I feel that the media is the bigest problem facinf race relation the second is ignorance black people have been here for over 400 years and this is as far as we have come it is a shame that we will not have a face to face relationship. Are blacks burning down america no lok at other countrys they have been fighting for years

Hi,
The reason I am asking this question is because I am not a very religious person and I do not come from a religious background.
I am not looking for a religion I would just like to educate myself a bit more.
I was looking to start with the Christian Bible that contains both the old and new testaments
Is this a good way to start ,What is your opinion ?
If possible please post a link to where I can buy one also.
Thx everyone.

Are there other Christian girls that have dated atheists? Have you faced any obstacles from parents friends, etc. I am not going to stop dating him, his values are better than the Christian men that I have met. I would just like to know what resistance I should be prepared to face.

Yes, he is definitely worth fighting for: more than worth it!
And no, I do not try to push anything on him. I refuse to do that. Our opinions are different, but our values are the same, and that is the most important thing to us.
