Yes it is strange. But then so is Sanjaya's not being voted off. He totally reminds me of a kid in the local High School's talent show who places 7th ot 8th because he was kinda adorable in his self confidence. But then, 10 years later you see him working at Wal-mart because he invested too much time into chasing the dream that never could have happened due to his total lack of star quality.
As to why they would do that, simple, they are fanatical about their favorite. Fanatics will resist anything that is contrary to their desire even unto their own demise. It is a mental illness.

Sanjaya (Sanskrit: संजय, sanjaya) is a character from the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The name Sanjaya literally means "Victory".

I guess whoever it is isn't aware of any real problems that something needs to be done about. Poor thing needs to be sent a link to a newspaper or something. I don't think he's the most talented, but my word, the kid *tries*, and the world won't stop if a less than adequate singer wins a talent competition.

I don't hate anybody! We are supposed to love, but I don't think Sanjaya is very talented!

Poor Sanjaya. I never thought he would have made it to R & S forums. I love him though. He's as cute as a button and he's what our teens need.

Our teens need better role models and he's perfect for that. Humbleness, Meekness, Grace under pressure.. He's not in rehab or out shaving his head bald or anything like that. So, there is a market for him. I think Mr Rogers will be happy to have him as his replacement..
