Everytime a question about a religious view of a women's role question comes up there's always one woman (usually a Christian or Muslim) who responds that women who work outside the home don't care about their families or are afraid to take on the role of housewife and mom... why is that?

Paxico - Good point. I don't think the role of housewife and mom should be looked down on either.

Fear that they might discover that among their priorities their family might not be their number one passion and there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. I think in order to be a whole parent and a happy one, you MUST pursue the things that make you who you are. I believe children/family only benefit from our fulfillment as women. I definitely believe it is fear based and guilt induced by a patriarchal religious system(s).

I agree you must define religious. I consider myself spiritual and I have faith in a "greater power" but I don't conform to any organized religion- at least not one I've found yet :) While I don't see this as a religious concept, I don't see it as an evolutionist perspective either. I want equality because I think all humans have the right to be treated equally. I would think it would be more of a sociological perspective than evolutionist. Also, I think you must separate the terms equality and congruency. They aren't synonyms.

because they are jealous.

See they themselves lack the ability to make it in the workforce as the lack either the ambition and desire, or the skills to be more than a mere housewife.

If a woman chooses to be a homemaker, fine, but don't equate it to a real job that requires more brains ambition, work-ethic and skill.

When the price of a maid that basically does the same exact thing a housewife is cheaper, then it amounts to economic stupidity for a woman NOT to work.

Here is a better question - why are women who stay home and care for their children looked down on by American society and career-oriented women patronize them and view them as "useless?"

Yes....I get this attitude A LOT.
