Islamic leaders across Birmingham have issued a joint message against terrorism in a bid to tackle mistrust of Muslims in the UK.
Leaders of the 150 mosques in the city have backed the statement, which comes in response to the police raid in London's Forest Gate this month.

The religious edict makes clear the killing of innocent victims is against the principles of Islam.

It has been welcomed by the chief constable of the West Midlands.

The message is thought to be the first joint statement made by Muslim scholars in the UK against terrorism.

Activities regulated

It states: "That killing of innocent civilians is absolutely forbidden in Islam and anyone who contemplates or commits any such act, does so against the teachings of Islam."

The statement adds action has been taken to regulate the activities of every mosque to ensure worshippers are given a message of "calmness and civic responsibility".

A question that calls for intelligent debate! If those who follow religions to its roots practice the above traits of character should there be any place for terror, violence and hatred? The message ‘Love thy neighbor’ if accepted in toto is the first link of the chain that is religion that extends till the end and all the essential contributes to religion are compressed in it. But do we practice it in our life? Many, not all who swear by religion!

I am 12 years old, and I am muslim. Do not worry, I'm no extremist and neither are my parents, sometimes I even read other bibles to learn about other religions. LOl, I come in peace. But lately some people are giving me the feeling that I am weird because I am a religious person. Are they right? I don't know, but some people are being weird about it and telling me that I am too young to be engaged in "such matter."
Me = confused. Confusion = BADDD. Bad = help?

Follow your heart and dreams and you'll get there.

Thank you!

While much is made of the “incomplete fossil record” - why is it that looking at the Cambrian fossils, there are tons of fossils but virtually no fossils of any living animals? And when you look at the fossils of the Jurassic, there are tons of fossils, but virtually nothing immediately recognizable from the past Cambrian and, again, virtually nothing that immediately resembles presently living organisms? And when you come forward in time again to, say, the Miocene, there are tons of fossils, bearing little resemblance to the either the Cambrian or Jurassic? Why is our planet fully populated presently, yet the further back you go in the fossil record, the less all organisms have in common with living ones?

As a Pagan, I've read about many metaphysical phenomena, but the only reference point I have for this is Cyndi Lauper's character in a movie and a few hushed whispers with like-minded friends. I get "feeling" from objects. It's nothing real dramatic, but I sometimes feel warm happy feelings or despair and sadness from secondhand objects for sale, or feel a need to drop something I thought I wanted to buy, or can tell that someone was using something of mine while I was away.

Do you? If so, or even if you've just heard of it, what do you *call* that, and is there anything decent written about it? (Even a website?)

If you're going to laugh or moan, that's fine, but I can anticipate all the unhelpful and mean answers already, so there's no need for you to supply them. Thanks to everyone else in advance!

Has this ad campaign made you feel pork is any less unclean? Can you equate pork with chicken?

If nothing else, tell me what those commercials made you think, if anything.

Everyone who frequents Yahoo Answers' R&S section know what I am talking about. We can have the same discussions repeatedly until either Jesus comes back, the universe implodes, or whatever you want to believe is gonna happen happens but I just don't understand why people keep asking, pointless questions which are either unanswerable, or can be interpreted in so many ways. People go to the Fishing channel to discuss their common interest, and to ask legitimate questions; it is the same for the math channel, where people seek help on their homework, and etc...

So why would you come into a Religion channel only to try to make people not be religious, or argue with them about their beliefs. Why would you ask stupid questions like "what if God farted..." just to be irritating? Why are you criticizing people who do believe in something, just because you don't? Yes, you all have a right to be here, and unfortunately, you all have the right to be jerks, not that all of you are.

i am studying your religion due to all the propaganda out there of it's actual beliefs , can you explain this to me ? is it a lie ?

it is from the book know the enemy , which is a book attempting to show the difference between modern muslims and the radicals such as bin laden

"The most widely respected Islamic authorities: the six accepted collections of (Sunni) hadith; the authoritative commentators on, and exegetes of, the hadith and Qur’an; the leading ancient experts on Islamic law; and the four schools of Islamic fiqh [jurisprudence] all assume that Muslims have a duty to spread the dominion of Islam, through military offensives, until it rules the world"

My friend sent around a chain mssage recently that really irked me. She was trying to prove that if someone said something against God, they would be horribly put to death at some point in their life. She took, for example, John Lennon, who, in 1966, in a magazine interview, stated that "Christianity will vanish and shrink. I don't know which will go first - rock 'n roll or Christianity." I'm not saying this was right, but John apologized publicly for it later on. And she was saying that because of this statement (and she didn't even include the correct statement) John was shot to death by Mark David Chapman. I find this to be completely not true.

Does anyone else find this apalling, or do you take my friend's point of view? I'm interested to see what others think of this statement.

The concept of jihad has many shades of meaning, but the way Osama bin Laden has applied it to political violence has moved beyond the bounds of Islamic teaching on warfare, scholars say.

"Everybody who has war experience understands that sometimes civilians are going to be killed during legitimate military action," says John Kelsay, religion chairman at Florida State University and the author of "Islam and War." "But direct, intentional targeting of civilians is just off the charts."

While bin Laden, Afghanistan's Taliban rulers and other Muslims have used the term jihad to mean "holy war," Cambridge University scholar Akbar Ahmed writes that "in fact jihad means struggle and there are various forms of it; physical confrontation is just one."

The phrase "holy war" does not appear in the Quran, (also spelled Koran), the Muslim holy book,

If there is no personal God, and if one can attain nirvana only as a result of the destruction of thirst (tanha) / desire, therefore the destruction of attachment, therefore the destruction of existence--from whence, do you suppose, did personality (or even the sense of personality) ever come? Exactly what is it, and where does it go when one ceases to exist?

So, where does it say thism and what is your opinion in this topic?

I seem to remember back in high school, when studying the Middle Ages (I think) people would pay the priesthood to pray for them, and therefore pay their way into heaven.

Or perhaps it was a situation where people would pay monks to pray for deceased loved ones or their deceased loved ones would be tortured in hell. Does this sound familiar? If so, what was this practice, or time in religious history called? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
