serious question. Honestly trying to figure out where this originated from. HELP!!!

It is an Italian slur, and it is the turkey's tail, not the whole rear end. Look at the shape of the turkey's tail, it resembles a stereotypical Italian nose, and that is where it comes from.

The origin is obscure. Probably started in England in the anti-Catholic period in the early 17th century. In England more recently they call it the "parson's nose". In the middle east it is called the "sultan's nose".

I guess it looks like an ugly nose so they gave it a name of someone they wanted to insult. Nowadays, the insult is lost but the name remains.

It's definitely a slur. I think you could probably find it's origins in protestant Ireland, but I could be wrong. I do know that I have heard it refer to the little tail piece (that nasty looking thing that hangs off)of chickens as well.

No slur, in olden times there was a pope who actually had a nose that looked like a raw turkeys' ***.

Uh, it's not really too offensive to Catholics because the only people I've heard refer to it as such are Catholics.
