My friend sent around a chain mssage recently that really irked me. She was trying to prove that if someone said something against God, they would be horribly put to death at some point in their life. She took, for example, John Lennon, who, in 1966, in a magazine interview, stated that "Christianity will vanish and shrink. I don't know which will go first - rock 'n roll or Christianity." I'm not saying this was right, but John apologized publicly for it later on. And she was saying that because of this statement (and she didn't even include the correct statement) John was shot to death by Mark David Chapman. I find this to be completely not true.

Does anyone else find this apalling, or do you take my friend's point of view? I'm interested to see what others think of this statement.

Dear Beatle G,

First i want to say that your friend probably had the right intention in that people should be careful not to mock God in their words.

But she is wrong in that God has not promised anywhere in the Bible that people that say things against him will die horrible deaths. They will have to answer to God- but we also see God in the Bible giving people chances to straighten out their lives. John said what he said and did many crazy things (i read a story about him peeing on a nun from a balcony), but the reason to not say or do those things isn't because "God is going to get you." God if anything shows himself as a loving God who wants us to do what is right and not scare us into it.

i can say i love the Beatles music wise, but can't say i'm the biggest Lennon as a person fan. But eveyone answers to God personally. i'm sure if we researched hard enough we find that all kinds of people face all kinds of death and ultimately they have to work things out between themselves and God.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

John Lennon died 14 years after making that statement. He wasn't exactly struck down immediately, was he? Your friend talks a lot of rubbish. No, I don't agree with her, or her silly little chain message.

It is her opinion....but appalling...not to me. It does sound kind of silly considering there are SO many religions that worship God and do not recognize Jesus Christ as the savior. From what I have been taught...God will take judgment on us...and it won't be down here on earth. You either pass or fail. Your friend has this fantasy that God is striking people down here on this earth...well really that is her own thing...try not to take it personal! Agree to Disagree...

The best weight I give to chain letters is the delete button.
Luke 12
8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

So not true!

Yes, while it may be wrong to say things bad about God, is does not mean that somewhere later on your life is going to be cut dramatically short... thats really just silly.

Very seldom do we see the wicked get punished. In fact Job tells us that we rarely see it. We are judged when we stand before God, not here on earth. Otherwise, lots would be eating their words.

I used to get chain letters like that all the time. None of it is true. there is not some secret invisible person documenting all your e-mails and forwards...if you get an e-mail that orders you to forward, then delete it and laugh. mwahaha

If your friend thinks god uses crazy people to assassinate others, you REALLY need to think about getting away from that person.

You might slip one day, and say G*D-D*MN and your friend might feel obligated to kill you in your sleep.
