If this GOD gave his ONLY SON to die for our sins, and he promised JESUS he'd do so...then why is it we need to seek his approval?

And if he made us in HIS own image, than what does that say of him? That he back stabs, kills, and does horrific things just like us?

Does this seem like a true and LOVING god?

I don't get where alot of you people think that he's so PERFECT when he rightly states that his SON was killed by us, and died for our sins. And then tells us we have to STILL gain rights to go to HEAVEN? He died for absolutely no reason . Jesus got jipped.

And BORN IN SIN!! Wait one moment here. How in the hell are we born in sin if his son died on the cross to CLEAR US OF SIN? Does that seem fair to that young, child who knows nothing of this world, let alone what happened THOUSANDS of years ago? I'm sorry, but, I wouldn't follow a god that is THAT hypocrytical. Seems like all he wants is to be worshiped for NOTHING. That isnt a god I'd want.

Is faith a trustworthy means of acquiring knowledge?

I'd appreciate an explanation for your answer, but a simple "yes" or "no" is also OK by me.

I am Christian but I do not take the Bible as the do all end all. In it, it is stated that those who do not believe that Jesus is God and Jesus died to save us from our sins will go to hell and those that do will go to heaven. But how can someone like a Hindu who was born and raised Hindu, has lived a good life, has never hurt anyone go to hell just because he does not beleve in Jesus. If that was so, why did God allow so many people to live just so they may burn in hell for how they were raised? If you think about it, most of us were born into our religion- our parents were sending us to Church when we were five- how can someone go to hell for growing up and believing someting because that's what their parents taught them?

Because Jesus said in matthews 7:21-23 Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will.
22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’
23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness.
So a lot of people who think they are saved because they preach in the name of Jesus, cast out demons, etc and Jesus will going to reject them so how do we know that we don´t belongs to that group, because looks like that have the Holy Spirit because they can cast out demons and are preaching.

What do you do when one too many times, you do your best, leave the rest to god, and god does nothing, and all your morals and values only serve to make you an easier target, a more submissive victim for the cold cruel world to kick around? How do you judge those unlucky enough to have been completely ignored by the divine, who have absolutely no reason to believe in anything that isn't inarguably substantial? Why does God give some of his children a wealth of reasons to sing his praises and leave the rest to wallow in the nothingness of everyday human existence? Are the believers who know without a doubt that their god loves them, really his spoiled an pampered children, and the rest his neglected outcast children, the ones he never wanted?

P.S. "The age of unbelieving" is actually the title of a song that was cut from the disney movie "Bedknobs and Broomsticks"

The last time I checked, This category is religion and spiritualism. Why are so many atheists here if you are neither? It's sad that this is the only forum you folks can find to yak with each other. Are you not comfortable in your own skin? Why must you drive spiritual people away from this forum?

All of the other religions refer to there god by his/her/it's name. Also, just calling Jahhova god creats confusion between the Christian/jewish/muslum and neutralist religion. Christians, jews, and Muslums already know Jahhova's name, why don't they just use that name? in the neutral religion, there is a mystery god, that other religions are just guessing the name of the mystery god, and neutrals just call this mystery god, "god". especially in europe, northern africa, and the americas, if a neutral talks about "god" they others will think they are referring to Jahhova. Since everybody is used to calling Jahhova god, and I am a religios neutral, how do I refer to my mystery god without using a specific name?

It seems to me that most(not all) people of religion don't understand basic logic.

You keep hearing the proverbial "prove god doesn't exist" question. Then you see the answers to that equating to "you can't prove a negative".

But, and I may be way off, the way I understand it is like this. The absence of proof in a positive assertion is the evidence to prove the negative. Basically, if there is no evidence proving something exists, that is the proof that is doesn't exist.

So, concering this issue, the lack of legitimate(meaning more that a book and people's faith) evidence proving god's existance is the proof he does not exist.

If I am way off on this understanding of logic, someone please let me know.

I just visited a Catholic Church service for the first time and the communion was sick! Hundreds of people were drinking from the same cup. And the Church workers were wiping the cup with the same clothe every time somebody dranked from it.
SPREADING DISEASE I SAY! Some body could have HERPES in their mouth or something worse! Even if your not Catholic, the point is: We have to live on the same continent as these people and they're shearing each others germs, getting sick and passing the germs on to us when they cough!
HOW DARE THEY! I wonder if the Apostles were really killed or if they caught the plague and died! That was a joke! But seriously, I understand that back in the ancient days of Jesus they had no disposable cups and no knowledge of disease. BUT GROW UP! Has anybody els found this disturbing?

Truth or trying to make people think you are smart.

Do you care about the facts when it makes you wrong?

There are many times I see people make up information to prove a point. I may agree with the point but they have stupid proof. It just makes me sad.

Atheists and other non-religious people often point out that countries that are more secular have fewer social problems than do countries that are religious in nature (such as the United States). Some of the secular countries that they are talking about are Japan and most European countries, where most of the people either don't identify with any religion or are admittedly atheistic. They note that these countries have lower violent crime rates and fewer societal problems overall, and attribute it to their non-religious natures.

I was just wondering how Christians and other religious people respond to this. Now, please bear in mind, I am not taking sides on this. I have just heard the atheist side of the argument, and now I want to hear the other side, nothing more.

Over the years I have heard that expression qouted repeatedly and judging from what they do not say and practice it is complete bull----. The Vatican uses that expression as do several others yet they have not said a word on support for their civil rights to a job, housing, and general humanity. These people are very similiar to the ones in the past who said it is okay to be black but we believe you are inferior or it is okay to be Jewish just practice Christianity instead or it's fine to be Asian just not heathen.
