Atheists and other non-religious people often point out that countries that are more secular have fewer social problems than do countries that are religious in nature (such as the United States). Some of the secular countries that they are talking about are Japan and most European countries, where most of the people either don't identify with any religion or are admittedly atheistic. They note that these countries have lower violent crime rates and fewer societal problems overall, and attribute it to their non-religious natures.

I was just wondering how Christians and other religious people respond to this. Now, please bear in mind, I am not taking sides on this. I have just heard the atheist side of the argument, and now I want to hear the other side, nothing more.

I do not have much time so this will be short.

There are different factors at work here.

Is the one the result of the other, or are they both the result of third but unreported cause.

Could their Christian Heritage be a cause.

Could it be that these countries either have a ban on weapons, or have a tight control on who uses them.

I have just named two.

As an example: Canada has a lower crime rate than the USA. In Canada it is difficult to obtain a pistol or other concealed weapon.in the USA it is not.
