Why do people say that cults are bad when so many people are christian? If you think about it is a cult in itself. Jesus convinced a group of people that he was all high and mighty and it was believed. And they have, for a very long time, told people what to think, what to believe, how to live their life, etc. It demands complete devotion and consequences anyone who does not obey entirely to hell! If there was a hell, how do they not know that it would be a 'good place'? It tells people who to be friends with. Me and my friend had a wiccan friend, our parents found out and told the church. They sat us down and told us that we needed to discontinue anything involving her as well as another friend of mine who had been pregnant. So could Christianity and all its forms very well be considered one of the greatest scams/cults of all time?

I have given away money 4 times in the past week. 3 of those times that I did it, I received anywhere from 4-6 times the amount I gave away within a 24 hour period from totally unexpected circumstances. It just so happened that people gave me money and it just so happened to add up to 4-6 times what I had just given away that day. I won't bother with all the details. Anyone else have this experience? Do you believe it's a fluke?

Egypt During the New Kingdom, the cult of the sun god Ra became increasingly important until it evolved into the uncompromising monotheism of Pharaoh Akhenaten /Amenhotep.

Why do we say Amen after all of our prayers?

He even wrote an entire book about it called "The Jews and their Lies."

"Therefore be on your guard against the Jews, knowing that wherever they have their synagogues, nothing is found but a den of devils in which sheer self-glory, conceit, lies, blasphemy, and defaming of God and men are practiced most maliciously and veheming his eyes on them."

"First to set fire to their synagogues or schools and to bury and cover with dirt whatever will not burn, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them. This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians, and do not condone or knowingly tolerate such public lying, cursing, and blaspheming of his Son and of his Christians. "

"Second, I advise that their houses also be razed and destroyed. For they pursue in them the same aims as in their synagogues."

I have heard that Sabbath day is Saturday but I have always thought it was generally Sunday. I know many Christians who also treat Sunday as Sabbath. Which one is it??

This didnt make sense at all it is as if the yahoo answers people don't even look at the stuff the remove.

For the title i put "Look at the question very carefully"

The question was not offensve at all and yet they still removed it and took 10 points.

It is as if they remove whatever people report without even looking at it.

I have been in a relationshio for two years now. We are of the same religion, however, he is in a position where he knows more about our faith, whereas, i am still learning, yet struggleing. I teach sunday school, i'm in a religious group, yet my boyfriend says it's not enough. He advised me on how to read the bible by breaking down the chapters. I have read 8 books in the bible. I got stuck on the gospel of John. I admit i got confused and lost and aggrivated and stopped reading for the past 4 months. I'm really confused as to how a person who claims to have so much knowledge and faith can act in such a manner.

This is a legit question, I really am curious. It's not meant as a blast or to make a point about paganism and Christianity. I've always wondered this. Last year my boyfriend's mom (who is an Evangelical) had the whole house decorated to the rooftop. I was surprised. How many of you do have trees, and does anyone NOT have a tree at Christmas? Why or why not?

I had a friend who said she isn't supposed to wear white things (e.g. rubber bands for pony tails, hats, etc.) on her head because it is forbidden in Buddhism. Another person also told me that white has some negative significance to the Buddhists.

What does this color mean to them? Thanks!

The Southern Baptist Church was created out of support for slavery. They used both the Old and New Testament to support their racist beliefs. Because they believed in the inerrancy of the Bible, nothing could convince them that otherwise.

If you can't figure out owning another human being is wrong, what makes people think Southern Baptists know what is right and wrong today? They say homosexuals are evil because the Bible says so (not in the gospels though). Well the Bible also condoned and defended slavery and you guys admittedly were wrong about that.

And don't tell me it was not about slavery. Here they are, admitting it and apologizing for it.

Many of the posters who seem to take deep personal offence at criticism of religious beliefs also seem to be the same ones claiming to "love the sinner but hate the sin" when the discussion is about homosexuality.

Is there a double standard about separating legitimate debate about ideas from personal attacks?
