I have been in a relationshio for two years now. We are of the same religion, however, he is in a position where he knows more about our faith, whereas, i am still learning, yet struggleing. I teach sunday school, i'm in a religious group, yet my boyfriend says it's not enough. He advised me on how to read the bible by breaking down the chapters. I have read 8 books in the bible. I got stuck on the gospel of John. I admit i got confused and lost and aggrivated and stopped reading for the past 4 months. I'm really confused as to how a person who claims to have so much knowledge and faith can act in such a manner.

Sheer arrogance. No one has the right to do that.

No offense, but I don't think this relationship is going to work out. It sounds like your boyfriend either thinks faith is some kind of contest (which it isn't, faith is personal) or is just trying to keep you down.

Wow it sounds like maybe his standards are a little too high. You sound very active in your church and bible reading. I don't think it's anyone's place to say whether you are or aren't religious enough. It's only God's place. If you feel your relationship with God is strong then don't let yourself be shaken by what someone else says.

Is your boyfriend trying to become a minister or deacon? If the relationship is serious I can understand him wanting to make sure you both believe the same. After all, the Bible does talk about not being unequally yoked. Unless he's aspiring to a higher position in the church and wants you there by his side, I can't see why he'd think what you're doing right now wasn't enough already.

Maybe sit down and talk to him about your feelings. Find out why he's asking this of you. Remind him of the sadducees and pharisees in the Bible that thought they had a closer relationship with God than anyone one else.

Nobody has that right. It is a personal thing, and is not to be questioned within a relationship. Visitors to this forum will find almost any belief questioned, and that is appropriate: that is what it is for, to get people to think and understand and justify, if possible, their beliefs. Sometimes, one concludes that it is not justified, and changes.

thats the type of people who turned me away from my faith..... im lost now trying ot find my way back!

its not that your not doing enough... ALL people are at a different lvl with God...

he shouldnt be the one saying those things, he has no right!

tell him that everyone is at a different lvl in there faith with God and as long as your always working to better yourself and grow in your faith, there SHOULDNT be a problem.

You can read what you like however you like. If he doesn't like it you are better off finding someone else who isn't so controlling. You'll be a lot happier for it. Belief is personal.

Anything religious is more than enough, it's too much.

That's like saying he's better than you because he's known it longer. Just because he's known it longer doesn't mean he knows it better.
