Religion & Spirituality - 4 March 2007

My computer has been slow - but only when I'm at Answers - for several days now. It's just fine at any other site. It seems to be even worse today. Is anyone else experiencing this? And, can anyone tell me what's up with it?

I mean, you don't see the Jedi slaying everyone because they are ignorant of the Force. Oh yes, it's real...
So why have Christians gone around killing witches, killing other christians, killing small children, killing large children, killing scientists, killing living things in general, killing themselves, etc.

Because of heresy?

All of the Athiests I know are very intelligent people who really don't care what religion others are.Einstien & Edison were Atheists and I never heard any stories of either mocking others.They lived thier lives and believed in what they believed leaving others alone.
Carrie Nation was a Chistian who led a crusade against alcohol.
Although she never touched a drop she is considered an alcoholic because it ruled her actions.Seeing that the Atheists on these forums do not act like true Atheists Do you think they could be considered Christians because they think about Christianity constantly like Carrie nation thought about alcohol?

I find that on yahoo answers, i can tell is someone is christian just from there picture, are you all reallly that geeky?

I'm looking for a book advocating a form of Chirstianity that emphasizes itsethical side, Christian virtues (patience, tolerance), loving neighbors, good deed, nonmaterialism, etc. A book that shows one can be Christian without commitment to Creationism, miracles, religious dogma, the trinity, a literal interpretation of the Bible, homophobia, etc. Any specific suggestions welcomed.

Hi. I wonder what's the difference between lunar and solar eclipse? Which one is more dangerous to see with the naked eye? Is it the solar eclipse? I know that pictures/drawings, etc of Mohammed are supposedly forbidden. Now, I will not argue that fact. However, in my studies, I have seen pictures of him, made by Islamic artists who are careful not to depict his face. Turkish artists of the 16th Century did this, and curiously surrounded him with flames.
What is the signifigance of these flames?
No bashing. This is a serious question, I have not been able to find an answer to this question.

According to the Christian belief, war, false profets, and natural disasters will occur and when this happens Jesus Christ will be at the gates of Heaven preparing to come down. ( the end of the world aka judgement day). Although all of these events have happened and continue to repeat themsleves, the end of the world is taken to be dramatic. So when the end of the world comes whether it be a long process or in a blink of an eye, will Jesus Christ put us (christians) to the test and allow all this terrible things to happen to weed out the true believers from the rest?? Or will it be a peaceful coming where souls are reunited with their bodies and the rest have a chance at salvation and eterenal life??

There is truth that is objective for example, a square has four sides. This is provable by counting the sides of the square. However when it comes to Truth about God, then truth is subjective. A person is unable to verify anything in this ream and has to rely upon faith as evidence.

I am really confused on what religion to follow. I believe there is a God but that maybe there was the whole evolution thing and that the Bible may be very subjective. I believe in the social teachings of Jesus but not sure if he should be considered a God.

The origins/ending of the human life is the most confusing for me, which intervenes with my belief in Supreme beings.

I don't believe in reincarnation.

What should I believe?

"And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar, it is a burnt offering unto the Lord; it is a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the Lord." Exodus 21:18, 25, 41

There are tons of instructions in the Bible telling the people to burn animal sacrifices to him; and he said, in effect, that it smells good.

I myself don't like the smell of burning flesh, but if the Bible god likes it, should I learn how to like it? If he likes it perhaps he wants me to like it too?

And don't tel me he liked it then but the doesn't like it now -- you religious people already told me the Bible god never changes, so if he liked it then he still likes it now.
