One affliction comes immediately after another, as if it were called for by the former. A metaphor taken from violent and successive showers of rain; which frequently come down from heaven, as it were at the noise, or call of God's water spouts.

These words may be descriptive of what happens when the snows of Mount Hermon melt. Tremendous waterfalls are created and these pour into the Jordan, causing it to swell. One wave seems to speak to another wave. This impressive display of power reminded the psalmist of his being overwhelmed by affliction as if being engulfed by a flood. See Ps. 88:7

it is a call to a DEEP spiritual life

seek God very deeply... its not a shallow water thing.. not meant to get your toes wet... dive in immerse yourself

some of the seeker sensitive churches that avoid things that are tooo deep should reconsider these types of passages... it's great to be sensitive to visitors but not at the expence of a spiritual meat and depth

When people are called deep they are thought of as profound. I would imagine that people who have a certain enlightenment or wisdom can immediately spot people who have also been vouchsafed revelatory experiences.

Spiritual depth is measured by our relationship through Christ and GOD wishes that we come neared to him through a deeper walk with Christ. Before Christ it was our walk in obedience to the laws. Now we walk deeper in the spirit for GOD is spirit and his spirit calls us.
