I know that pictures/drawings, etc of Mohammed are supposedly forbidden. Now, I will not argue that fact. However, in my studies, I have seen pictures of him, made by Islamic artists who are careful not to depict his face. Turkish artists of the 16th Century did this, and curiously surrounded him with flames.
What is the signifigance of these flames?
No bashing. This is a serious question, I have not been able to find an answer to this question.

The flames, they certainly are flames, seem to surround him like a halo.
The source is a series of miniatures from a biography entitled the Progress of the Prophet.

I assure you that these are dignified pictures. They are actually are quite beautiful, and depict important moments in the Prophet's life.

Muhammad(pbuh) owns the right of intercession on the day of resurrection. He can take out of hell whom he pleases and admit them into paradise. That is a right that he owns and no other prophet. He owns the right of intercession. And muslims can take out of hell a certain number who pleases them(were kind to them in this word). I can not recall the hadith correctly. But that is the preordainment. PEACE!

Edit: If Dean reads this( as salamun alaikum), I have seen a couple of pictures of muhammad(pbuh). But they will never depict his face. They say not to make pictures to make fun or mock, so they never do such an act nor place his face. Some pictures will have the sun shining as his face. Some of the first mosques had this. I saw it on a show on the history channel if I recall correctly. But they would never depict his face.

Edit 2: The link is an example. Muslims never depicts him in any wrong manner. His face stays hidden. Replaced with the sun.

Wow, I've never heard of such a thing. Islam forbids any pictures and drawings of Muhammad, you are correct...but I have never heard Islamic artists drawing him and especially Turkish artists surrounding him with flames. That seems pretty crazy.

Maybe they didn't know back then in the 16th century that pictures of Prophet Muhammad was not allowed....but that's pretty absurd, considering they're Muslim.

I'm not sure because I have not seen any kind of paintings of him but I would guess the flames were made to glorify him or something, like how some pictures are made with light surrounding them. Sorry if I wasn't more help.

In answer to "High Ground," Muhammad (pbuh) was actually a very attractive man. There are no realistic paintings of him but hadith that describe what he looked like.

Trible Macher, how more chauvinistic can you get? No wonder the muslim world feels such a deep love for your country.

I've never seen any paintings by muslims depicting Allah, or human faces for that matter.

No dear...

There should be no drawings of any of the prophets, and the fire thing... I've never seen such a thing, so I won't go on.

Peace.

Muhammad was too ugly to be pictured. That's also why he had to marry an old hag Kadijah, and subsequently rob the wives of others and commit pedophilia.

Out of so many wives, how many of them were old enough, pretty enough, and smart enough to make a conscious decision to marry muhammad? NONE!

Muhammad had to resort to trickery, cheating and lying to get his way through in life. It is isad, but the absolute truth. Just look at how he shamelessly defended himself after speaking up for the devil in Ishaq 166.
