well I think the population of Muslim started with the African Americans. Then the nation of Islam came. Most of the African Americans were from the Nation of Islam that later converted to the true Islam.

I just read a very interesting article about how many of the slaves who were brought to America were Muslims. Many African Americans who convert to Islam said in the ariticle that they felt a strong pull to the religion that was robbed from their forefathers.
Im sure thats not the case with everybody. But I still think it is interesting.
I dont really know if what you are saying is true though, since many of the converts in my mosque are indeed white- most of them female. We have more female converts than ever in the last ten or so years. But in Islam race is not really a factor anyway, a Muslim is a brother or sister to us, whether they are Chinese, Black, White, or whatever.

I think because it is a religion that promotes equality and does not cater to any one race or gender..and I think that is much better understood in USA. I know Muslim people(not converts but born Muslims) from other countries and most of them-sorry to say- are racist and ESPECIALLY sexist!!! I believe they fail to grasp the true meaning of the religion.

What's with all the racism in this world!!!!?

Edit: Alright, since you say it's not a racism question....

When Islam came, it told people that they are all as equal as the tips of a comb. Islam gave no priority to color or wealth, but to faith.

The very first person to climb onto the root of the Ka'abah after it became a Muslim town was a black man named "Bilal" who was one of the very first Muslims.

I guess it's because Islam gives equality to people whether they are colored or not.

Peace.

Well, I'm not, but I used to go to a predominantly black church for a while when I used to be Christian. Maybe black Americans are more spiritual?

Maybe it has something to do with a feeling of being wronged by "christian" whites or that they had a religion forced on them.

It's sad though because Christianity is responsible for getting them out of slavery (prayer of Christian slaves see "Under God" by DC Talk) and for giving them rights (MLK need I say more?)

Most of them are in prison. Violent people are attracted to a violent religion. Believing in Christ they will go to hell because they are bad people. In Islam they will go to heaven because the only criteria for going to heaven is believing in Mohammad. It makes them feel better about themselves.
