I am looking to find the right kind of learning bible.
I am looking for a learning bible that is literally translated from the original books, one that does not gear toward women or men, one that is based on facts and not bias. Unquestionably one that does not try to relate to today and how people talk today, I have no problem reading about what happened back then, with the language they used.
I am looking for one that basically just makes the bible a little bit easier to read and understand with out trying to make it hip, cool, or bias.
I was raised a Roman Catholic, but I don't want one that is strict to that particular religion.
I really want to learn just about the bible and it's books, or stories, without it pushing me toward one religion or the other.

The guy's "quinquae viae" have been totally schooled by later philosophers.

In almost 8 centuries, is this the best they can bring to bear?
That is sad. and funny.

Since some moron is bound to challenge that instead of reading up on 8 centuries of philosophy, let's take #5, and put it in modern language:
* All designed things have a designer.
* The universe is designed.
* Therefore, the universe has a designer.

Bwahahaha! Talk about unwarranted assumptions. This _might_ have worked on dark age peasants but give me a break. Please stop quoting this loon.

The part of the dream that stood out the most was- when I stepped into some slushy snow outside. All of the sudden...I fell into a pit of water and sank deep into what seemed like a pond...I could see up out of the water/ but was unable to move my body to swim to the top...it was if I had frozen. I could see people above me looking for me..but i couldn't yell for help/ cause I was under this water...then i woke up!

"If Christ was in fact God, he knew all the future. Before him like a panorama moved the history yet to be. He knew how his words would be interpreted. He knew what crimes, what horrors, what infamies, would be committed in his name. He knew that the hungry flames of persecution would climb around the limbs of countless martyrs. He knew that thousands and thousands of brave men and women. would languish in dungeons in darkness, filled with pain. He knew that the church would invent and use instruments of torture; that his followers would appeal to whip and *****, to chain and rack. He saw what creeds would spring like poisonous fungi from every text. He saw the ignorant sects waging war against each other. He saw thousands of men, under the orders of priests, building prisons for their fellow-men. He saw thousands of scaffolds dripping with the best and bravest blood. He saw his followers using the instruments of pain. He heard the groans -- saw the faces white with agony. He heard the shrieks and sobs and cries of all the moaning, martyred multitudes. He knew that commentaries would be written on his words with swords, to be read by the light of ******. He knew that the Inquisition would be born of the teachings attributed to him."

"He saw the interpolations and falsehoods that hypocrisy would write and tell. He saw all wars that would be waged, and knew that above these fields of death, these dungeons, these rackings, these burnings, these executions, for a thousand years would float the dripping banner of the cross."

"He knew that hypocrisy would be robed and crowned -- that cruelty and credulity would rule the world; knew that liberty would perish from the earth; knew that popes and kings in his name would enslave the souls and bodies of men; knew that they would persecute and destroy the discoverers, thinkers and inventors; knew that his church would extinguish reason's holy light and leave the world without a star."

"He saw his disciples extinguishing the eyes of men, flaying them alive, cutting out their tongues, searching for all the nerves of pain."

"He knew that in his name his followers would trade in human flesh; that cradles would be robbed and women's breasts unbabed for gold."

"And yet he died with voiceless lips."

"Why did he fail to speak? Why did he not. tell his disciples, and through them the world: 'You shall not burn, imprison and torture in my name. You shall not persecute your fellowmen.'"

"Why did he not plainly say: I am the Son of God,' or, 'I am God?' Why did he not explain the Trinity? Why did he not tell the mode of baptism that was pleasing to him? Why did he not write a creed? Why did he not break the chains of slaves? Why did he not say that the Old Testament was or was not the inspired word of God? Why did he not write the New Testament himself? Why did he leave his words to ignorance, hypocrisy and chance? Why did he not say something positive, definite and satisfactory about another world? Why did he not, turn the tear-stained hope of heaven into the glad knowledge of another life? Why did he not tell us something of the rights of man, of the liberty of hand and brain?"

"Why did he go dumbly to his death, leaving the world to misery and to doubt?"

"I" will tell you why. He was a man, and did not know."

For me, I'm still new at this, but I was shocked when we have come across people who tell you they're going to Hell/and that they want nothing to do with Jesus. I was also surprised we came across a guy who said he was wiccan. Thanks.

you accept Yeshua as the true Messiah?? I have heard this, and wonder. I am Jewish heritage, but was not raised in a Torah obsevant home, but came to accept Yeshua as Messiah as an adult, through my own studies and the Holy Spirit of God changed me when I really truelly repented; and I do 100% believe Yeshua is the Messiah- I have been studying the Torah, and asked many questions to a former Rabbi that accepted Yeshua, but I am still confused as to why Jews do not believe Yeshua is the Messiah. So,I guess this is 2 questions..ok..3- do you not believe the testaments? Shalom!

The reason I am asking is because I have just read a comment that says "The Swiss Guard [at the Vatican] frisk anyone having an audience with the Pope. Not for hidden weapons but for hidden bottles of water. Apparently any water in the room when the pope says a blessing, instantly becomes Holy Water, and the church does not want anyone taking Holy Water outside of the Vatican and trying to sell it."

Is this true?

Its funny, but most people who use the Crusades as an example of Christianity gone equally militant as Islam leave out one small issue...but for global Jihad, there would have been no Crusade.

The chruch invented the crusade concept to ward off Jihad, which was engulfing the world. In fact, the Jihadists made it to the gates of Vienna twice! They didnt simply usurp the Jewish and Christian holylands (keep in mind, their holiest of holys is mecca), they had overtaken the whole of India, middle-east, and parts of europe.

The problem the chruch had is that the creation of a religious duty to go to war had no basis in the new testament and thus it was entirely a chruch construct, which is why people today bash the Crusaders to heavly.

To Muslims bash the arabs who invaded India (greatest genocide ever) or took over the holy lands? Not at all, they ravenously defend it...as they should...it IS their doctrine...no contradition.

Assuming the Bible is correct in its description of the 7 year Tribulation period. Would you pay to watch Christians being fed to lions and mass executions? According to the Bible, Christians will once again face indescribable persecution and extreme tests of faith. I think it is a scary idea and I do not want to be present for the tribulation. I may be kooky, but what are your thoughts?
