The guy's "quinquae viae" have been totally schooled by later philosophers.

In almost 8 centuries, is this the best they can bring to bear?
That is sad. and funny.

Since some moron is bound to challenge that instead of reading up on 8 centuries of philosophy, let's take #5, and put it in modern language:
* All designed things have a designer.
* The universe is designed.
* Therefore, the universe has a designer.

Bwahahaha! Talk about unwarranted assumptions. This _might_ have worked on dark age peasants but give me a break. Please stop quoting this loon.

JP: "of the day" is the operative here, the day being 1225 or so. And he is like the frigging inventor of that cursed circular logic of theirs so I am sorry, but he gets no quarter. Especially since other loons like to quote him.

*coughs*

These things valid or not, St. Thomas Aquinas represents one of the strongest philosophers and theologians of the day. Ad hominem attacks on him are unbecoming.

How can we expect respect if we do not show it?

-----------

I agree, his ideas are no longer viable. However, with the understanding of his day, they were viable.

Do we judge Darwin an idiot because some of his ideas were wrong in light of modern research? Do we think him a 'loon' because he could not fathom the evolution of the human being?

------------

Hrm. If you need someone to ad hominem... sloppy down there is begging for it. I give you prior moral approval.

Thank you for your question! Really! This is by far the best I have encountered on yahoo answer. It is simple and it makes sense. It is too bad the ones that really need truly will not look up the info, before they start to bash. Bash they will, it is what happens when you have their number and their intelligence cannot guard then anymore. They start to bash. Even though your remarks and input are simple and easily understandable, they will force themselves not to look at it! Ignorance is truly bliss.

That's the best the Christians have. If their religion were true they would have an argument that is a little more persuasive.

I love how people love to quote the Church Fathers and intellectuals who were all Catholics, then in the next breath put down the Catholic Church.

If they don't quote him how will they keep their circular reasoning from falling apart?

Too right. The best argument he could come up with for a god begins with "God exists, so therefore..."

Duh...
