The reason I am asking is because I have just read a comment that says "The Swiss Guard [at the Vatican] frisk anyone having an audience with the Pope. Not for hidden weapons but for hidden bottles of water. Apparently any water in the room when the pope says a blessing, instantly becomes Holy Water, and the church does not want anyone taking Holy Water outside of the Vatican and trying to sell it."

Is this true?

Might be. Holy water is simply water that has been blessed by a priest ( Bishops are also priests)

Some unscrupulous people would try to sell holy water blessed by the Pope, I'm sure. Selling blessed object is sinful- it is called simony, and is forbidden by the Church.

Holy Water is water that has been blessed by a priest. It can be water from any source. Catholics dip their hands in it and make the sign of the cross before entering and leaving church.

I doubt it. Why would they restrict it? Our Parish gives out Holy Water to anyone who would like it. All you have to do is bring a clean container. I keep a bottle of it by my bed for nighttime when I wake up and feel uneasy about something.
