is swearing a sin? and what makes it a "swear" word?

like for instance, i know some people that get annoyed when people say "dangint" and "darnit" because those are swear words to them, but to others they arent. what is the criteria for a word to be considered a swear word?

furthermore where in the bible does it say not to swear?

When he said:
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (NIV, John 13:34-35)

Do you love gay people as Jesus would? Do you show yourselves as true disciples of Jesus? Or are you a fraud, taking his gift, and forgetting the work?



By the way you can fill in gay people above with Atheists, Agnostics, Buddhists, Wiccans, Jews, Muslims, Democrats, whatever.

Really, what would Jesus do?

I've seen recently people posting questions about doing things such as watching porn, swearing, etc... etc... and whether or not that will affect them getting to heaven.

The overwhelming response were replies such as no, you will not get to heaven and all kinds of stuff about burning in hell etc... etc... Scriptures were even cited to support this stance.

Now.... I know very little about the bible. However, "supposedly" there are diffent scriptures that paint a different picture. A picture of a loving, and caring God or Jesus that knows that as long as you are in the flesh, and because you fall short of Gods' glory... that you're gonna commit sin and he knows this.

And..... there are supposed to be scriptures to the effect of doing good doesn't impress God because the best man can do is like filthy rags compared to God. The wholwe idea of christianity and the good news is that it's not so much what you DO.... but that you have belief in christ as a savior.

There is nothing but evidence for evolution. Why do doctors have to invent a new flu vaccine every year? Because the old virus mutated. That's evolution right in your face folks! Are they incablable of looking at gays as humans?

Do they think we will suddenly start granting animals the right to marry? (They don't even have the right to live a decent life before we kill them to satisfy our hunger for meat. )

Is it simply that they have no logical secular reasons for banning gay marriage, so they have to make up falicies?

And most of all, didn't Jesus say loving your neighbor was one of the most important commandments of all? That and loving him above all. Well if that's what Jesus would do, and you love Jesus, and want to follow his top 2 commandments, shouldn't you have a little compassion? Maybe it's not your cup of tea, maybe you even think its a sin, but who are you to judge?

If you're right, they will go to hell, and God can punish them. Stop trying to play God.

if i do recall i thought it was only women of the human species that experienced pain due to eves sin of the whole apple thing.and i also THOUGHT that animals werent held accountable for the sins of mankind because obviously animals cant be held accountable because they dont hold the mental capacity.so in conclusion another reason to think christians are full of it.

I read a question and the answers to it (link below). Several people mentioned that they were worried that the USA would be ravaged like Sodom and Gomorrah if we legalized gay marriage! I am shocked, never even considered that reason! Does anyone else think this?
