I've seen recently people posting questions about doing things such as watching porn, swearing, etc... etc... and whether or not that will affect them getting to heaven.

The overwhelming response were replies such as no, you will not get to heaven and all kinds of stuff about burning in hell etc... etc... Scriptures were even cited to support this stance.

Now.... I know very little about the bible. However, "supposedly" there are diffent scriptures that paint a different picture. A picture of a loving, and caring God or Jesus that knows that as long as you are in the flesh, and because you fall short of Gods' glory... that you're gonna commit sin and he knows this.

And..... there are supposed to be scriptures to the effect of doing good doesn't impress God because the best man can do is like filthy rags compared to God. The wholwe idea of christianity and the good news is that it's not so much what you DO.... but that you have belief in christ as a savior.

Jesus is the sin bearer. God laid on Christ the guilt of all men and we get off scott free! It requires more than emotion to receive forgiveness based on what Christ did. It requires an act of your will....repentance. Have you ever acknowledged your sin before God?

Don't be afraid, God will not condemn you....He will direct you to the cross of Christ.....and you WILL receive forgiveness AND eternal life......It is His pleasure to extend mercy .

You stated that the whole idea of Christianity and the good news is that it's not so much what you do.. but that you have belief in Christ as a savior.

We all sin. Jesus came to the earth to live, be tortured and die and then live again so that each person can be forgiven of their sins.

Jesus becomes our sacrifice only, when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior and follow Him. This means that we give up all of the things that hurt us and others (sins) because we love Him and other people.

Yes, we will still sin but, we will do our best not to because of our love for Him.

We all sin, and are under God's judgement.

Does that give us license to sin? Of course not.
You will know believers by their actions, not their professions.

A believer stands on faith in Christ for forgiveness and the outward signs should be Christlike behavior. We will never be perfect, but a good tree does not bear consistently bad fruit.

A believer acknowleges their sin and shortcomings, repents, and seeks change, but change comes from God only.

Your scenarios are not mutually exclusive, but change through the Holy Spirit, and forgiveness via Christ's sacrifice can't be separated. Good behavior is not the grounds for salvation (filthy rags) and the concept diminishes Christs actions on our behalf.

It says you will know them by their actions. In the book of James, the point is made that faith without works is a dead faith. The demons see God and believe and it does them no good. If you take the time to study, I think you will find that ...yes, we all sin, but with a saved person, you should see a change in their life. A difference. No one can stop sinning completely, but if you"put in your time" at church and as soon as you step out, you are on your way to live your life as if God does not exist, then I would say you need to re-examine your faith. There is a life changing difference between head knowledge and saving faith. The good works are the product of a saving faith, not the means to obtain salvation.

I believe that once a person exercises saving faith in Jesus Christ, he or she is forever in the family of God. God never kicks anyone our of his forever family. A number of Scripture passages support this view. For example, in 1 Corinthians 12:13 we are told that at the moment of salvation the Holy Spirit places us in the body of Christ. Once we are infused into the body of Christ, we are never excised from the body. In fact, Ephesians 1:12 and 4:30 indicate that at the moment of believing in Jesus Christ for salvation, we are permanently "sealed" by the Holy Spirit. At that point, we are God's everlasting property. That seal guarantees that we'll make it to heaven.
Moreover, we read in John 10:28-30 that it is the Father's purpose to keep us secure despite anything that might happen once we have trusted in Christ. Nothing can snatch us out of His hands. God's plans cannot be thwarted (Isaiah 14:24). Further, Romans 8:29-30 portrays an unbroken chain that spans from the predestination of believers to their glorification in heaven.
Another fact we need to keep in mind is that Christ regularly prays for each Christian (Hewbews 7:25). With Jesus interceding for us, we are sucure. (His prayers are always answered!)
Of course, the fact that a believer is secure in his salvation does not mean he is free to sin. If the Christian sins and remains in that sin, Scripture says that God will discipline him or her just as a father disciplines his children (see Hebrews 12:7-11).

Yeah and the word also says in a marriage the bed is undefiled but many Christians put all kinds of laws even in marriage to the point that husbands and wives are even allowed to enjoy each other. It is Jesus that defeated sin and death,we should be enjoying life and showing love to even the unlovely instead of pointing fingers.Period.
It is written in the word of God somewhere in Isaiah....I will write my laws in their hearts. It is supposed to be an individual relationship with God and if we have his blessings on something it isn't anyone else business.

Christians who commit that kind of behavior are definitely sinning and need to repent of that behavior and ask forgiveness. When a person accepts Christ and is baptized, they are expected to give up all the old sins and habits. If a Christian continues in ungodly behavior, he needs to re-examine, repent and re-baptize. You could compare it to the "baptism" of Constantine's army - they went into a river and came out wet pagans, not Christians, because there was no change of heart.

You say you know very little about the Bible, yet you definetly grasped the concept of God's love well. Yes, we've all sinned, and God will forgive us if you believe in Jesus and repent. Simple as that, no matter how big or little your sins are.

The Bible says we all sin.. in this flesh we will always sin but we can be forgiven through Christ.... not by good works. Imagine that!

it requires more than just belief; you must repent also. To repent means to change your mind/behavior, to go in another direction. It also involves being sorry for your sins. The Holy Spirit will help you to change if you are willing
