... but from what I've read about it, they sound pretty hateful towards people of other faiths (e.g. Darwin Day doesn't have much to do with their religion in my view, it just looks like it's there to piss off theists). Is there a secular humanist out there who doesn't believe in a God but still respects the beliefs of those who do?

ok I know I shouldn't direct this at atheists but you're the only ones intelligent enough to answer this: How exactly did the first stars and galaxies form?

it has brainwashed humans for the past 2000 years and you people are too ignorant to realize that then mankind has certainly failed and will be doomed.

I was raised fundamentalist Christian. I was sure of God, the Bible and what God expected. In my marriage I was submissive to my husband, raised my children according to the bible, and was active in church activities and bible studies. My marriage broke up, my children have taken other paths, and I'm alone and broken in spirit. I'm not sure I believe in God anymore. I prayed, fasted, and all that I was asked to do and now I'm alone and struggling. Where is this God I trusted? I'm trying to regain some sense of God.

Yesterday I had a thought. Keep in mind the fact that I'm an Atheist, so you might want to take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I was thinking about Satan (no jokes please) and I thought, "Isn't it better for God if Satan is only an illusion designed to control us [humans] while we're on Earth?"

You see, it seems that if God were omnipotent, he wouldn't let any being grow as powerful as Satan. However, the idea of Satan (punisher of all those who sin on Earth) would seem very appealing to Him. Ergo, it seems smarter to me if there is no Satan, and God punished sinners accordingly.

I told a friend this today in lunch (I'm a senior in HS) and he said that my thought was flawed because God gives us free will. However, I have two thoughts on free will; One: If God created free will, and He is truly omnipotent, then isn't free will an illusion? And, two: I can't fly just because I will it. Why would God give Angels the ability to become Devils?

Serious answers only please.

We know absolutely nothing about what happens to a person after they die, except of course that life here goes on, and that person's body decomposes and is recycled into the earth.

Personally i believe that when you die it becomes just as it was before you were born... an absence of consiousness... nothing, you're dead and that's it.

But what if there is something? Considering it's something we have absolutely no insight on emperically speaking i would wager that our experiences in this life ammount to absolutely bupkis in this hypothetical afterlife. Kind of like a reincarnation sans karma. If we have no way of knowing what's on the other side it seems only logical that this life has nothing at all to do with what happens afterwards, be it some sort of other existence, or even total nonexistence.

Your thoughts?

My neighbor's cousin (both good friends) accidently shot himself in the eye with an aerosoft gun. How? idk! Horsing around in the house. Anyway, just hope he hasnt injured his eye. Those things hit pretty hard, b/c my neighbor also managed to knock his tooth out before, with one. Actually, it was that cousin that did it. Anyway, keep them in your prayers!

I've noticed that many of the Wiccan or Pagan oriented posters put emoticon-like symbols at the end of their posts. Is this just a Wiccan/Pagan thing? Is there a glossary somewhere?

I like the idea: one of the problems with web based discussion is the lack of non-verbal cues.
