I was raised fundamentalist Christian. I was sure of God, the Bible and what God expected. In my marriage I was submissive to my husband, raised my children according to the bible, and was active in church activities and bible studies. My marriage broke up, my children have taken other paths, and I'm alone and broken in spirit. I'm not sure I believe in God anymore. I prayed, fasted, and all that I was asked to do and now I'm alone and struggling. Where is this God I trusted? I'm trying to regain some sense of God.

Religion is a personal relationship between God and human which God established when He created human. Mankind, by nature, does not know the only True God nor His established relationship with man. This is the source of all human "religions". Human's knows there is a God and we are to be connected. Therefore, human's attempts to make that connection. For thousands of years men and women have been trying to reform the world. They have created gods and devils, heavens and hells; they have written sacred books, performed miracles, built cathedrals. they have preached and prayed; they have tried promises and threats; Most of us believe in a Higher Power but some of us are unsure who or what we believe it is. We call It many names. There are many religions to study but sometimes none seem to fit. Many people learn the scriptures, the rules, the laws, and the behaviours practiced within the walls of their churches, yet they never "feel" It inside, so, when they leave their service, they don't realize that Spirit goes with them. They fall back into their daily habits and patterns and forget all about Spirit until next Sunday morning. What a lonely place that is. In view of these facts, what, after all, is religion? It is fear. Fear builds the altar and offers the sacrifice. Fear erects the cathedral and bows the head of man in worship. Fear bends the knees and utters the prayer. Fear pretends to love.
Like prosperity, suffering introduces a test into human lives, both disclosing and forming character. For religions peoples, suffering comes as special trial. Particularly its unjust distribution Belief in the goodness and power of God implies a just distribution of misery. When good persons experience undeserved suffering, it becomes difficult to maintain the conviction that God controls a universe that operates on a principle of reward and retribution.
The world of suffering is special, causing everyone to think that the experience of pain is unique and consequently focusing the ego inward, which heightens self-centeredness. Suffering takes place in solitude, isolating one from the community and generating a sense of alienation, at the same time, suffering strive toward the building of community, for its power extends from the greatest to the least. Genuine sympathy is possible precisely because others have felt pain and isolation. Hence the language of suffering is readily comprehended by all who are searching for meaning in a hostile world.
In some instances Biblical writers thought of suffering as transitory, resulting from an illusion that resembles a dreams, while others believed that god’s revelatory presence in suffering compensated adequately for any amount of misery.
Prayer is always the solution, for God is a very present help in time of trouble. No matter what the problem might be, no matter how great the difficulty or how complicated the matter seems to be; prayer can solve it, and bring about a happy and joyous solution.
After having prayed, you take whatever practical steps seem indicated, because your prayer will guide and direct your foots steps, prayer is contacting, communicating, and aligning your thought with the infinite intelligence which responds to the nature of your thought and belief. Prayer will bring forth whatever you want and need in your life, if you conform to the laws of your mind purposefully, sincerely, and righteously. Prayer constantly is bringing about the seemingly impossible and healing the so- called incurable.
When you are perplexed, confused, and fearful, and wonder what decision to make, remember that you have an inner guide that will lead and direct you in all your ways, revealing to you the perfect plan, and showing you the way you should go. The secret of guidance or right action is to mentally devote yourself to the right answer until you find it the response within you.
The infinite intelligence deep in your subconscious mind is responsive to your request. Your subconscious mind is all-wise, knows what type of answer you need, and will answer in a dream, as an overpowering hunch, or a feeling that you are being led on the right track.
You ca learn to live so that fear will no longer dominate you, although your fear may reach back into the past the past, maybe even into the inheritance of the race mind, while there are many primitive fears in the subconscious of all of us, you can eradicate all those fears by joining mentally and emotionally with the God-presence within you. As you learn to love God and all things and as you trust him implicitly, you will overcome you fears and become a free and fearless person.

I hear loudly what you are saying as i went through the same thing many years ago. I am now in my second marriage and do not regret getting married again. I went 8 years before I got remarried and I lost my son to his mother and grandmother as they kept him under their thumb. However, I have kept my faith in God all the more as I have had a lot of struggles in life as you are now going through. Things look bleak now, but you need to focus on HIS everlasting love. He knows the end before the beginning. That's why HE is GOD. You need to refocus your energies on church and God. HE say's " He will never leave you or forsake you".
You must remain diligent in Him and know that He will make you stronger in time, but you must abide in HIM at all cost. In time things will settle down and you will meet others and find similar values. Life is too short to focus on pain and the ugliness of life. Stay focused on what GOD expects of you. And that is to worship HIM and only HIM. He will direct your path. Hang in there.
Try reading the four Gospels once again and try to see just how close you can get to him once again. He is always with you no matter where U go.

In HIS abiding Love.

You're assigning misplaced motives to God by not understanding the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant (which obviated the Old). The Old Testament was "under the Law" and demonstrated man's inability to live up to it. Man is without salvation with the Law alone, because he continually sins. And sins were only rolled over every year by the High Priest's sacrifice, but never permanently addressed. The New Testament demonstrates that Christ's Perfect sinless sacrifice, the blood atonement for our sins, removes us from certain death from not keeping the law, and provides eternal forgiveness so that we can restore fellowship and inherit the promise of eternal life from our Father in Heaven.

Understand that the God you trusted never existed.

I'm not saying that God does not exist. I'm just saying that the judgmental punishing God that lives on a far off cloud called heaven does not exist.

The real God is exactly where Jesus predicted he would be. Jesus told us that the kingdom of the father was within us.

That is where you need to look first.

Good luck Dear Sister.

Love and blessings Don

Oh, sweetie! I'm praying for you! I'm not sure what fundamentalist Christian is, but i understand that you're having a tough time now.

You don't have to fast to be close to God, Here's my advice: pray with a friend. Or several. And read 1st John and maybe 1st Corinthians after that. 1st John is all about how much God luvs you, and its an awesome pick-me-up.

Also, maybe talk to your pastor, or find a small group of friends to confide in.
Remember how much He loves u!

Paul went to Ephesis to preach against the goddess Diana. If you were a fugitive , no matter the crime and you were within a certain distance from the temple of Diana. No one could be arrested even if they were a murderer..Paul,s brothers and sisters all forsook him because of the danger they all faced. He says:" At my first answer no man stood with me , but all men forsook me ; I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me , and strenghthened me ; that by me the preaching might be fully known , and that all the gentiles might hear : and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work , and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever.Amen'."2 Timothy 4:16-18.Sister , God is with you right now , as He was with Paul so He is with you.I know you and I can say "well I am not Paul" but we still serve the same God Paul served , and He loves us just as much as He did Paul. He is the One who will deliver you out of the mouth of the lion, from every evil, and He will preserve you to bring Him glory in His heavenly kingdom.Just look around you and you will see this same thing happening to people without God in their life's.Stand up and be strong, let them that are without God and going through the same thing see what God can do.If you want to know how far He is from you just whisper His name and , HE WILL BE RIGHT THERE.

God has nothing to do with these events any more than you would be responsible if your child's marriage broke up.

God waits with infite Love and eternal patience for each and every one of his creations to experience all that they choose in this adventure called physical life. Once the lessons of Love are learned and each one of us returns to the immediate presence of the Creatore we are welcomed back as a loving parent welcomes a long-lost child.

Nobody is left behind, nobody gets lost. The only guarantee in the universe is total, pure, unconditional Love and eternal bliss.

I'm sorry that you are having a hard time. Pray, study your Bible so that you will be grounded in the Word, and talk to your pastor, Christian friends and/or a Christian therapist. They will be able to encourage you, and pray for you and your family. God is there for you, and He will never leave or forsake you. I pray that things improve for you. God Bless

Jesus is standing right next to you.
if you are "born again", meaning that you have a PERSONAL relationship with HIm, just reach out.
religion "per se" is of very little importance.
what is important is YOUR personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
don't get hung up on "religion".
John 3: The Words of Jesus Christ (God in the flesh)
3. "Verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God."
4. Nicodemus saith unto Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"
5. Jesus answered, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God."
6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
16. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18. He that believeth on Him is not condemned; but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

Are you being true to yourself, man can not be saved by works alone. Have you committed any sins you are not admitting to yourself? I find it hard to believe that God would abandon someone true to the Word. Sins are not just isolated events; they are a reflection of the sin nature that permeates our entire being. Consider, for illustration, an omelet (which is a cooked mixture of eggs, some milk and cheese). It takes only one rotten egg to make the entire omelet rotten, no matter how many good eggs we add. The one rotten egg permeates the whole mixture and makes it unacceptable to our taste. Similarly, it takes only one sin to make us unacceptable to God. God is infinitely holy and good, and no matter how hard we try, we could never succeed in reaching His absolute standard of perfection. He is also a just God who is forgiving.
