Religion was created to keep the masses down...it allows for them to have a brighter future in the next life. Without heaven nor hell you would perhaps have great revolutions against the wealthy and the elite...by the way, the only hell and heaven exist here on earth and you have full control over what becomes of your life...sort of!

Spare the rod spoil the child, we wouldn't need a hell because it would be here. From how ignorant I've noticed the human race getting for the last 20 years I feel it's on the way anyway one way or another.

A much less scary place with a lot less fear.
Christians DO live their lives in FEAR. Its called guilt because they know they cannot live up to the perfect example shown in the bible, and they are constantly afraid and fearful of being found out. Its drummed into them at sunday services and in mid week bible studies.
If there was no hell, people would spend more time actually being helpful, loving and friendly to their fellow man.
I used to be very fearful of making mistakes when I was in the church. My mother was constantly belittling me for my mistakes, and I lived in fear.
I didnt finally become free from fear until after I left the church.

The term that comes to mind is Free range idiocy. With no concept of consequence comes no concept of better.
Hell is the bad place we envision as the place not to be. The place you go when it all goes bad.

Simple. Not very different than it is now. The world is already essentially evil. No one restrains these urges out of fear of going to hell. The urge to do wrong is much too strong for that to work. To really resist evil urges, one needs to know of a better way. Otherwise, they will just do whatever evil is native to them. Of course, that varies by individual. Those of us who do believe in hell try to moderate our behavior because we have hope for something better than what exists today. ...Like Heaven!

Probably about the same.
Seriously, how many people question each action they take with "Will I go to hell for this?"
Nobody does, people just do what they do, and regret it later.

Much like it is now just that more people would not believe in hell..
But people not believing in hell does not make it not exist.. It exists and many people will find that out when they die.

Christians are only afraid of hell when they first become Christians. Once they begin to know and trust God, all fear is gone. That is why most non-Christians think we are living for Christ out of fear, when really they are the only ones who even consider fear.

People wouldn't be guilt-tripped into doing what they're told. perhaps morality would come via an appeal to the good of humanity rather than the threat of punishment.
