There are many forces in the universe that are destructive, so how do you find union with a universe without becoming it's victim?

Sometimes (not so much anymore) I find my self 'apart' from reality (or the universe). As if I was somewhere, and the world/universe were something i had to protect myself against.

Ok, how do you protect yourself against 'reality' or the 'world', and find find unity with 'reality' or the 'world'?

ED SNOW: In some ways your right but metaphysics is not about escaping reality, it's about molding and controling.

Religion breeds guilt, regret and makes the human feel like a worthless slave to an imaginery master. Definitely not going that way.

I think what i'm trying to do here is be less of an as$hole towards people around me, but still able to defend myself against bigger asholes than me...

In truth no real harm can come to you. You are an eternal spirit and a direct manifestation of the infinite Creator.

God is pure love. There is no hell.

There is only separation from God and the path back to God.

God waits with infite Love and eternal patience for each and every one of his creations to experience all that they choose in this adventure called physical life. Once the lessons of Love are learned and each one of us returns to the immediate presence of the Creatore we are welcomed back as a loving parent welcomes a long-lost child.

Nobody is left behind, nobody gets lost. The only guarantee in the universe is total, pure, unconditional Love and eternal bliss.

I agree with Ed Snow. I would add that self-knowledge would help. Try psychotherapy, or at least reading books on personal psychology.

Leaning on religion has left mankind with apalling guilt, neuroses, facial ticks ;-) and worse! Look to yourself, and look to philosophy. Oh, and don;t forget to read history. The history of mankind is quite a riveting read, and it helps us to understand what brought us here and where we might be going. these things may help you feel more anchored or centred. But avoid religion - it is cowardice in capsule form.

We can't control weather and that is good. If we (man) could then the most rich and powerful would decide what kind of weather THEY WANTED and we would have to live, or die, with it.

In fact we don't have "unity" with the universe. It is somewhat independent and we can only make it worse by interferring with it.

Your protection is from God in that He does answer the prayers of His people

Possibly you seek escapism. I suggest you visit a place they call a `church`, these places are the headquarters of the various Escapist cults. You may however seek the answer in metaphysics and other abstruse philosophies. Better still ,learn to cease fearing, accept life, go with the flow, fear is the enemy.

Finding union with the universe is finding your balance with and in it, and being aware of the universe around you. To become "in tune" with your surroundings.

Everything in the universe seeks balance.
High winds are caused by the attempt to balance the air pressure, if you pay attention to it, and are "in Tune" with it, you can seek cover from the coming storm. If you ignore the universe around you, then you become a victim of it.

Your asking some deep questions aren't you? :) I feel it can be done spiritually and as far as physically you are star dust which makes you a part of the universe.

By understanding that everything is due to causes and conditions and cultivating a mind that doesn't have aversions to things usually labeled as "destructive" and clinging to things usually thought of as "pleasureable".
