... but from what I've read about it, they sound pretty hateful towards people of other faiths (e.g. Darwin Day doesn't have much to do with their religion in my view, it just looks like it's there to piss off theists). Is there a secular humanist out there who doesn't believe in a God but still respects the beliefs of those who do?

Martiedawn: I understand what you're saying, and I think I'll reword my question: are there any secular humanists who RESPECT other religions, or do they all just tolerate them?

The respect for others is actually what it's about, sort of. It mostly has to do with helping the human race as much as possible. The only disrespect shown towards religion is that they think it holds society back.

Of course there are! However there are secular humanists that are not empathetic toward other religions and visa versa just as is the same in all groups. (I am hesitant to use the word "tolerant" because it leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. By tolerant implies that you are okay with someone believing/being different from you but still think that you are absolutely right and don't try to put yourself in their shoes.)

Some Secular Humanists respect theists' beliefs, but some, such as Richard Dawkins, do not.

Just consider yourself a non theist , Im a new atheist struggling to get rid of my left over Christian beliefs and Ive found most of the hateful, judgemental people happen to to be the Christians . Humanism simply implies you are into caring about the human species and not worshiping a god for you own selfish salvation .
