if god has a plan for everyone's life then does he ever actually answer prayer? it would seem to me that god would already have planned for you to survive surgery, or to get that parking spot, or whatever, which means that it really isn't miraculous... it would have happened whether or not you asked. finally, if it is as easy for god to part the seas as it is for him to allow a dying man to die, wouldn't they both be equally as miraculous?

I don't get it, and I'm genuinely curious. I'm not saying I'll convert once I understand this one concept; it's more like when there's a movie that a lot of people say was really great only it made no sense to me. I want to at least understand the plot, before trying to judge whether it was any good.

God is omnipotent. God makes the rules. God decided that humans didn't deserve to live forever in paradise because the first two disobeyed him and ate some fruit.
Then God becomes flesh in the form of Jesus. Jesus dies on the cross. Now humans can go to heaven.
Did I leave something out? Or is this just a really weird story? What was the point of being born or crucified, if God had the power to grant amnesty all along? And what does it matter if Jesus died, since he was really God all along? A "sacrifice" implies giving something up - all God did was temporarily assume human form and then drop it.

I read the bible already, so please don't answer by quoting scripture.

The Holocaust is something different. It is a singular event. It is not simply one example of genocide but a nearly successful attempt on the life of God's chosen children and, thus, on God himself.

Abraham Foxman, National Director of the Anti-Defamation League, writing in the ADL's Frontline, January 1994.

to prevent anti-semitism - I agree with Abe Foxman head of the ADL

Foxman says another wave of global anti-Semitism and persecution of Jews could be on the way unless Christians agree to ignore large sections of the New Testament.

What sections will probably be on his "must censor" list? Certainly, it would include Christ's incendiary attacks on the Pharisees, whom He called "whitewashed tombs, full of dead men's bones." 4 Foxman would also censor the Apostle John: "He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son does not have the life... Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son." 5 In the book of Revelation, recorded by John, Jesus says those Jews who reject Him are "the synagogue of Satan," 6 another passage Foxman would certainly cut out.

How empty and weird is a debate when one side simply asks for one tiny little piece of evidence for 'something' to exist, and the other side can't provide that? How is it even possible that such a debate continues?

Should that one side continue in asking for that tiny evidence, or simply walk away with grace? Should the other side continue in screaming about being oppressed, or just walk away in shame?

(Before anybody gets offended, like always...I am, of course, talking about the debate between the Followers of the Holy Zeus and the people who deny His existence)

I believe in God and although I do not follow any one religion, I do instead look apun religion as a great source of moral guidance. I believe God is energy and this energy was used to spark the big bang and everything that followed, this I feel merges religion with science. But I believe God cannot stay mad at anyone and that no one is damned to hell forever, no matter how evil they have been during their lifetime. This makes me think that surely even once in hell, people like hitler would be forgiven if they realised what they did wrong and truly asked God for forgiveness. Surely God could not refuse this apology. and if God did forgive the person for all their wrong doings, would that person be reincarnated to be tested again? or would they just go to heaven?

I find it funny that there are so many racist Christians out there. If you're truly a Christian then you would know that by being racist you are inherently defying god. If you hate/dispise a certain race you are pretty much telling god that he made a mistake in creating that race. Which means you are questioning god's will. I believe racist people don't go to heaven since they are doubting god and are being hateful to fellow humans who are this racist's brothers and sisters.

People call themselves christians that I would never associate myself with.
I believe what the bible says; I believe that God sent his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for my sins and yours and that by repenting from my sins(turning from my sins) and putting my faith in Jesus Christ I am alive spiritualy. I dont believe it. I know it.
I dont hate anyone or would never wish harm on anyone. The bible says to love even those who hate you. and I do the best I can. This is how a true christian should be. peaceful, loving, meek, kind. I believe people take the word Christian and God and use them as a scapegoat to hide their true intentions. The word CHRISTIAN has been abused and no longer has any meaning. I was talking to a guy at work who claimed to be a christian and the next words out of his mouth curse words and blasphemies. The bible says that if you claim to be of Christ, you should walk or live as he did. Do you agree???

It seems to me that anyone of average intelligence would:
Want to know what the Doctor plans for you before surgery...
Want to know how money set aside for you is invested in your retirement plan...
Want to know a skyscraper evacuation plan in case of a terrorist attack...
and etc., etc., etc.
Why should you merely accept whatever befalls you as God's will when you do not have a logical explanation for it?

.....any different than his command for people to not have sex before marriage?

the reason i ask is because that while a huge part of the christian church cannot admit that homosexuality as a sin is suspect, a huge part of christians set aside the whole "no one can have sex before marraige" thing becuase they know in their heart that god couldn't care less if two responsible adults make love.

are the commands any different?
