Do you ever watch the movie and wonder if people really spoke that way to each other back then? You know, they spoke like they were reading the bible.

Of course not, that language was normal back then. The only reason it's "formal" now is that nobody speaks like that! You have to remember that education was for a very select few.

Seeing as how they didn't speak English, and nobody has ever been known to speak in such curt and sometimes rhetoric ways (not even during the days of Shakespere), no.
