It is painful and heartbreaking to see a loved one pass, but reading from the bible will certainly soothe and comfort them.
Read the 23 psalm... The Lord is my shepeard, I shall not want...
Romans is a good read also.
your loved one may have questions in thier mind about what is to come next, it doesn't hurt in fact it eases thier transition with soothing words and stories from the bible. Ask God to send the Holy spirit ( the comforter) to your loved one, and hold your loved ones hand and as they gently sleep, ( or when they are awake) pray. Prayer is so very soothing and comforting and it will make things alot better for your loved one and yourself.
I pray that all of you are comforted in your time of great sorrow.
God Bless,

Read Philippians 4:6,7 to them.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose gain, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Pray for them and make sure their soul lies in the hands of God. Tell the person of how much God and you love them. If the person accepts, believes christ, and confesses that Jesus is lord, tell them that they are going to a place better than the one on Earth. (heaven)
But remember words only cannot do the trick, if your heart is sincere and you believe it yourself, the truth will be shown in your voice and in your eyes, making the person comforted.

People passing over need quiet and soft words such as how much you care about them, a simple prayer, a comforting pat on the hand, kiss on the cheek, sharing a sweet memory. Dear God, please take care of my good friend____ who I care so much about and who I will miss and think of often.

It depends, if the person who is dying is a Christian, then you can hold hands and pray for them. Just asking God to comfort them and give them peace. If not a Christian, then ask them if they want to talk about God, if they say no,then just sit and be there for them. That is the important thing just your presence..

Sadly I have been in this situation many times. I always find it comforting to say "I love you, you can go now and be at peace. We will all take care of each other and you will forever be a part of us."

Tell them you love them, and that you'll meet them in heaven. Like someone else already said, remind them of family waiting for them. No more pain, no more tears, "He'll wipe every tear from their eyes". Prayer wouldn't hurt either.

I would tell them how much I loved them and was so happy to be part of their lives. I would reassure them that as Christians, one day we would be reunited, and that there will only be peace for them from now on. No more pain, nor more illness.
