We have been invited to attend a dinner to celebrate Diwali at Hindu friends. I know a little about Diwali, but am unsure of what I am expected to bring for my hosts. Will I be expected to bring presents? What sort of things would be suitable?

you blokes have the priviledge to live in a peaceful country, have good education and most importantly, the opportunity to be closed to God. What about those who live in a war torn countries, the darkest and dirtiest corners in this world, they are illiterate, poor, and they mingle with drug lords and thugs, never in thieir entire ife have they heard of God, let alone diffrentiating the rights from wrongs.

So my question is, has God abandoned them? or God has not, they are there because it's meant to be, or pehaps they have a mission to fufill....what do you say?

p/s. if they ever have the opportunity to encounter God in their afterlife (hell, perhaps), he has every right to point the finger to god and accuse him of not providing a conducive enviroment for him to be closed to him, so, who's fault is it?

O ye who believe! Murder those of the disbelievers .... and let them find harshness in you. [Koran, Repentance: 123]

Humiliate the non-Muslims to such an extent that they surrender and pay tribute. [Koran, Repentance: 29]

O believers, do not treat your fathers and brothers as your friends, if they prefer unbelief to belief, whosoever of you takes them for friends, they are evil-doers. [Koran, Repentance: 20]

Let not the believers take the unbelievers for friends.... whoso does that belongs not to God. [Koran, The House of Imram: 60]

The earth is flat, and anyone who disputes this claim is an atheist who deserves to be punished. [Muslim religious edict, 1993 Sheik Abdel-Aziz Ibn Baaz Supreme religious authority, Saudi Arabia]

If someone becomes a Muslim then apostatizes, he would be asked to repent; if he does not repent, he should be killed. [Imam al-Shafi'i, The Ordinances of the Qur'an (part 1, p. 289)]

Islam teaches that it is not one’s birth, but good deeds and faith that determine one’s nobility. The Islamic slogan "One God for one mankind" aims at eliminating all the narrow views, like communalism, casteism, racism etc. Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) declared in plain words that "He who invites to communalism, fights and dies for communalism, not belong to us"

I went into the deepest pit, black, like hell or a deep place of misery and foreboding, a place I have never felt or been to the likes of before.

I never in my life felt this with someone, and I saw him the very next day took one look and almost threw up, because my stomach churned.

Note: I have hugged a lot of people, and never felt this way about anyone? Why this person?

I recently posted a serious question asking for opinions about the motivations of people who started various religions, given the wealth and power they accumulate, and the subsequent wars they stimulate.

I also questioned the mind-set of the followers who seem unable to think for themselves and blindly follow religious laws.

It was deleted as being in violation of the Terms and Conditions of Yahoo Answers!

Do you think such opinion-seeking questions should be censored? Or should religious questions allow free thought and speech like any other topic?

completed way before it sees the light of the day.that means what you are doing now are all preplanned by god, your book has already predetermined what profession you are in, who are your parents, how many kids you have or will have or even when you will die. Things that happen, it happen for a reason. you are given a mission to complete when you are sent to this world, it may be for a good reason or otherwise. do you presume god didn't know the child who were born 40 years ago will one day become a president or chief of aterrorist group? You may argue that its your free will and your choices, but is that so? if you can't decide who your parents and siblings are, when are you born and die, accidents, good look bad look, race, and so on then, what makes you think you actually have a free will to decide what to do in your life?

Serious answers please. It is estemated that it took Noag more that 80 years to build the ark. In those days every body knew what he was doing, but did not care and thought there was something wrong with him. Until that very day the fountens of the deep broke open and it started raining, and then it was to late. No my question is this: do you not think that the same thing is happing now, I meen all the sighs Jesus gave us are here, and allot of people see it but do not do anything about it. I think we are livving in the last couple of years, and God is givving us all the sighns (Matthew 24). Are we also going to perish the same way the people in Noag's time did, or are there people out there or in this group that sees the sighns and are doing something about it?

I was brought up in a Christian home
That does not make you a Christian

I believe in doing good and helping others
Quite right, too, but so do most people

My mother always went to church
That does not make you a Christian either

I believe in God
Most people say this, but that doesn't make you a Christian. Many people think they are Christians but rarely bother about Jesus Christ.

Well what is a Christian then?
