My parents were raised Catholic but I never had any religious instruction. When I got to school (age 4), and I heard all these grown ups talking here and there about heaven, hell, angels, I seriously thought they were joking well into my teens!

I thought it was like Santa Claus, you know, a big cultural myth, and we all just agree on perpetuating it. The more I heard, the more ridiculous it seemed. Who wants to be resurrected? Isn't it selfish to only want to act according to the bible to receive something (eternal life) as recompense?

Kind of scary actually......I don't mean to offend believers, I'd rather hear from atheists or agnostics. Thanks.

Yes, I know god has a " special " place in hell for me. I want to hear about practical experiences not something read in a mythologic comic book.

In this life, such injuries or tortures have real consequences, such as a disability or burn you would have to carry w/ you through your life. Or losing your home, or all of your money, or your loved ones.

But if you are dead, what does it matter, since you have no responsibilities to anyone! Secondly, doesn't it stand to reason that just like your body adjusts to itchy clothes or some constant irritation, after a few weeks or months of burning in hell or being beaten, you would get used to it & be bored or not scared? What is there to be scared of, dying?? obviously not.

If yes, why. How does this fit into the bible? If animals are only here for us to "use," why do we (some of us at least) feel so bad when they are injured or try to help them? What good does that do God (or us?) (according to theology, btw, I'm a big animal lover)

See, you get more chances. Why have only one chance, so much could go wrong like an accident, or an injury that keeps you from fulfilling a dream. Or maybe you were born a man and always wanted to be a woman.......or another race, or social status. Isn't that so much more to look forward to, to start again on a clean slate as a child (in any country), and almost no reason to fear death? It's just a "do over" if you die in this life, no biggie.

btw, I'm talking only about human to human.
Also, consider if this was true and we can all be reborn into each other, how you are responsible & should feel totally sympathetic to fellow human's conditions, in the world, etc.
